What is the Census 2021 • • • The next census will take place on Sunday 21 March 2021. For the first time this will be a digital-first census, but paper will be available for those who need it. We are aiming for a 94% completion rate. Statistics, don’t include any personal information. The information we collect in the census remains anonymous for 100 years. Everyone must complete the census. Legislation made the modern census a legal obligation in 1920. 3

March 2022 Every household receives a pack telling them to join in now and how to do it Contact and support centres go live. March Releasing population and household estimates by Census Day 21 March 2021 Reminder letters sent, field officers visit houses still to respond. April March 2023 All Census data outputs. May June July Engagement Field Operation progresses through different phases, beginning with engagement and ending with non compliance. Key Population Groups & Strategy STRATEGY KPG Gypsy Traveller Develop and maintain relationships with the Gypsy Liaison Officers LA and St Leger Homes, Virtual School Language Support Service & EMTAS Eastern European Contact businesses; Distribution hubs; Religious leaders and churches; Associations and societies linked to these communities. Find trusted voices within the community. Publicise in social media platforms. Utilise LA contacts. Top ten languages spoken identified. Roma Community LA contacts utilised. Contact with associations in key areas Hexthorpe and Thorne, organisations such as the Conversation Club, The Junction, Kings Cross Church, Youth Association, Schools & other associations that have been involved in work with Roma community. Social Media. ONS have also employed to Roma Census Advisor from the community to support in Doncaster, Sheffield & Rotherham People lacking digital skills Engagement strategy primarily around LA services, charities and community groups. Research includes charities, community halls, Parish Councils, churches and church leaders, carers and associations that support especially in relation to digital exclusion. To support digital skills – we will utilise the use of Voluntary Action Doncaster , publicising through newsletters, leaflets, and word of mouth. ONS have implemented a system to understand the proportion of the population who will need paper copies in the first instance. Training for one stop shops and staff that are able to direct residents to phone the Census support centre to order paper copies. Older People Learning Disabilities Partially sighted & Hard of hearing. Low income households Veterans Engagement through Social Care workers, outreach workers other groups and organisations including council representatives that still have interactions with the older generation to enable digital support and signpost advice avenues Work with LD Partnership board contacts, Your life Doncaster, Voluntary Action Doncaster and other 3 rd sector organisations in this arena to support reach out to this community, ensuring message is clear, concise and tailored to this particular KPG. The strategy involves working extremely closely with the Sensory Team and other organisations that also support this population. There also a number of local services for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired people and these are documented by DIAL Doncaster - Disability Advisory. Service Doncaster Deaf Trust Strategy includes working with LA to identify associations and groups relating to low income households. These include charities that support families and such as Samaritans and housing groups. Engaging with many primary care providers including NHS trusts and support organisations. Food banks and shelters. Engaging with schools in the deprived areas as well as family hubs, associations and children's’ services Through LA forums including a dedicated Armed Forces / Veterans page on Your Life Doncaster, a dedicated Facebook page and wellbeing twitter. Plus digital “ drop in “ session for veterans. Also engage with any organisations linked to veterans on a local basis 8
