Cell Organelles By: Tiana Williams & Tiffany Ross
What is a cell? A CELL IS THE SMALLEST UNIT THAT CAN PERFORM ALL LIFE PROCESSES.
1. ALL LIVING THINGS ARE MADE OF CELLS 2. CELLS ARE THE BASIC UNIT OF STUCTURE & FUNCTION IN LIVING THINGS. 3. LIVING CELLS COME ONLY FROM OTHER LIVING CELLS. Cell Theory
There are 2 types of cells Eukaryotic • Eu: True • Karyote: Nuclueus • Contain membrane bound organells Prokaryotic Pro: Before Karyote: Nucleus Does Not Contain A Nuclues! (Bacteria)
Eukaryotic consists of two groups Plants Animals • • Cell Wall Ribosomes Lysosomes Mitochondria Cholorplasts Nucleus Vacuole • • Flagella Ribosomes Lysosomes Mitochondria • Nucleus • Vacuole
Cell organelles • Mitochondria: produces energy (ATP) through cellular respiration • Rough E. R. : transport & store proteins • Smooth E. R: creates lipids/fat • Ribosomes: creates proteins • Chloroplast: conducts photosynthesis • Golgi Apparatus: packages & releases proteins • Lysosomes: contains enzymes that helps break down molecules • Cytoplasm: holds all the organelles in place • Vacuole: contains food/water
Cell organelles • Cilia: hair-like structures • Flagellum: tail, movement • Nuclear Envelope: surrounds the nucleus • Cell Membrane: the bouncer -semi permeable: allows certain molecules in -made of phospholopids • • • Cell Wall: gives structure & shape, provides protection Nucleus: “command center” -stores DNA Nucleolus: site of ribosome synthesis Microtubules: provides internal support Chromatin: threadlike mass of DNA
