CELL DIVISION CELL AS BASIC UNIT OF LIFE
CELL DIVISION & CELL AS BASIC UNIT OF LIFE
Cell Division • The process of a cell dividing into new cells. • Two kinds of cell division: mitotic cell division and meiotic cell division. • The division is including two parts: the nucleus division and cytoplasmic division. • The division of the nucleus in mitotic cell is termed mitosis.
Mitosis • In mitosis, the nucleus of a cell divides into two identical nuclei. Each newly formed nucleus will obtain one complete set of chromosomes. The exact replication of chromosomes prior to equal separation of chromosomes via cell division.

The cell as a basic unit of life 1 • Cell is thy basic unit of the life. • Tissue is a group of similar cells working together to perform one or more function. For example: epithelium, muscle, nervous and connective tissue in animals and epidermal mesophyll and vascular tissues in plants.
The cell as a basic unit of life 2 • Organ is different tissue grouping together to perform some specific functions. For example heart, eye, lung, liver in animal and root, leaf and flower in plant. • System is several organs and tissues working together to perform a particular set of functions in a co-ordinated way. For example: digestive system, breathing system.
The cell as a basic unit of life 3 • The whole organism is composed of many different systems. The system co-ordinate to ensure that the organism works as an integrated whole.
