3 Stages of Cell Cycle ØInterphase l grow and copy DNA ØMitosis l distribute DNA ØCytokinesis l split into 2 identical cells

Interphase-“copy and prepare” ØCell grows ØCopies DNA ØCell prepares to divide Ø Dance move-crouch down with one hand down and rise up, spread out fingers and bring other hand around

Mitosis Ø 4 stages-prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase ØChromosomes are divided up and given to 2 new cells

Prophase-“coil and condense” Ø Chromatin condenses and organizes into chromosomes Ø Nuclear membrane breaks down Ø Spindle fibers line up Ø Dance move: make hands into an “x” by your stomach with your fingers closed

Metaphase-“align and attach” ØChromosomes line up in middle of cell ØChromosomes attach to spindle fiber Ø Dance move-move hands in front of face still in “x” shape

Anaphase-“divide and drag” ØCentromeres split ØChromatids move to ends of cell ØCell stretches out Ø Dance move-slide hands to side still condensed

Telophase-“unwind and expand” ØChromatids stretch back out and unwind ØNuclear membrane reforms ØDance move-wiggle fingers to un-condense

Cytokinesis-“separate and go your own way” ØCytoplasm divides ØCreates two new identical cells ØDance move-slide and move away
