CEL Programs & Initiatives 2019 -20 Olin’s INTERNATIONAL IMPACT INITIATIVE – The CEL Practicum and Madagascar Sustainability Initiative illustrates our commitment to supporting entrepreneurs and NGOs in frontier and developing markets. • THE CEL PRACTICUM engages students in real-world, team-based consulting projects. Through a semester-long experience, students apply and enhance their critical thinking skills though work with business leaders in organizations ranging from startup to NGOs to Fortune 500. Every year the CEL executes 140+ projects for clients regionally, nationally and globally. • THE MADAGSCAR SUSTAINABILITY INITIATIVE provides students the opportunity to engage in grassroots sustainable development in rural subsistence economies. Through our partnership with the Missouri Botanical Garden (MBG) and their work in Madagascar, students from diverse disciplines are challenged to develop and assess the feasibility of entrepreneurial solutions to poverty alleviation through the lens of MBG’s mission of environmental conservation and sustainable development. GLOBAL MANAGEMENT STUDIES (GMS) imparts international perspective and exposure to global businesses and emerging markets. Student-led teams conduct field research in a chosen geographic region and business sector, engaging with business leaders and building a network through social and inter-cultural engagements. In the past 15 years, GMS has launched over 40 student-led industry trips. THE TAYLOR COMMUNITY CONSULTING PROGRAM (TCCP) provides students the opportunity to impact the local non-profit sector. Through team-based, applied learning projects students enable positive change in the St. Louis community. Since its inception in 1991, TCCP has engaged nearly 1, 500 students in impacting over 250 regional non-profits in multiple sectors including education, community development, and public health. THE SMALL BUSINESS INITIATIVE engages BSBA students in teams to provide project support to local businesses in the St. Louis community with the goal of delivering critical information and actionable results on critical day-to-day operational issues. OLIN/UNITED WAY BOARD FELLOWS impact the St. Louis community as local non-profit board members. Through a year-long service with United Way, students engage with community leaders and develop valuable skills in board governance, interpersonal communication, and leadership. In 5 years of active service, the Board Fellows program has enlisted 130 students in support of 60+ United Way partners. THE CEL ENTREPRENEURIAL CONSULTING TEAM (CELECT) delivers impact to the St. Louis start-up community. Through a partnership with the T-Rex Incubator, students work with local entrepreneurs, applying their critical thinking skills to early-stage business challenges in marketing, resource management, and strategy. CELect engages an average of 45 students in startup projects each year. METRICS CLINIC is designed for students who want to build their financial analysis and management consulting competencies through work with early-stage businesses.
