Cedar Hill Athletic Training Department • The role of the Licensed Athletic Trainer includes serving athletes in the following areas: • • • Injury Prevention Injury Evaluation Injury Rehabilitation Injury Education Counsel of the athlete

Cedar Hill Athletic Training Department • Athletic Trainers complete a collegiate curriculum that has

Cedar Hill Athletic Training Department • Athletic Trainers complete a collegiate curriculum that has been approved by the National Athletic Trainers Association and must pass the state and/or national examination. • Athletic Trainers have a thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, nutrition, conditioning and other related areas.

Cedar Hill Athletic Training Department • If a student athlete chooses to seek medical attention/evaluation from a Healthcare provider, the athletic trainer works in conjunction with that doctor regarding treatment of the athlete.

Cedar Hill Athletic Training Department • The athlete must return a signed and dated

Cedar Hill Athletic Training Department • The athlete must return a signed and dated release from a Medical Physician to the CHISD Athletic Trainers. • The athlete will be released by the Cedar Hill Licensed Athletic Trainers by passing a functional exam. • Parental Authorization and or notification will not be accepted.

Cedar Hill ISD Athletic Training Department • The athlete is to report every injury at the end of practice to the athletic trainers in the athletic training room. • If the athlete realizes later at night that they have an injury, they are to report it before school in the athletic training room. • For middle school athletes only, if an athletic trainer is not on site report your injury to your coach.

Cedar Hill Athletic Training Department • Athletic Trainers apply National Health and Safety Standards for the policies set for the district. These include: • Heat Policy • Cold Policy • Lightening Policy • Tornado Policy • Automated External Defibrillation Policy • Blood Bourne Pathogen Policy • Prevention and Treatment of Staphylococcus (Staph) Infections • Concussion Management

Cedar Hill Athletic Training Department • Each athletic facility at Cedar Hill ISD has an emergency evacuation plan to be followed in case there is an emergency. • Every coach at Cedar Hill ISD is certified in Adult and Child CPR, First Aid and AED use.

Cedar Hill Athletic Training Department • Asthmatics are encouraged to always have their prescribed inhaler on them at all times and • To have an extra inhaler located in the athletic training room in case of emergencies. • Athletes are responsible for purchasing their prescribed medications.

Cedar Hill Athletic Training Department • Diabetics are encouraged to have with them their monitoring devices and medicine if applicable on them at all times. • Those with severe allergic reactions are encouraged to have with them their Epinephrine Pen with them at all times and an extra with the athletic trainers.

Cedar Hill Athletic Training Department • FERPA: Family Education Rights and Privacy Act • Athletic Trainers can only divulge injury information to parents, doctors and adult personnel that is directly dealing and/or supervising your child. • Information is not shared with other athletes, parents or community members.
