Some Terms • Tribulation -The internal and external suffering of God’s people which, according to NT teaching, followers of Jesus Christ are to expect as a matter of course. The NT references to the “great tribulation” describe an unprecedented period of global suffering that will mark the time just prior to the parousia.
Some Terms • Rapture - From the Latin rapio (caught up), the belief that the church will be caught up (Greek harpazo, 1 Thess 4: 17) and united with Christ at his second coming. – Pre. Trib – Rapture happens before Tribulation Period – Mid. Trib- Rapture happens during Tribulation Period – Post. Trib - Rapture happens after Tribulation Period
Some Terms • Millennial Kingdom - Arising from the Latin word for “thousand, ” the millennium refers to the thousandyear reign of Christ mentioned in Revelation 20: 1– 8. – Pre. Mill – Rapture and Tribulation before literal 1, 000 year reign of Christ – Post. Mill – Future reign of Christ ushered in by global and exhaustive Gospel Progress – Amill – No literal 1, 000 years – spiritual ideals and Christ rules now in the hearts of the people
Some Terms • Second Advent/Coming - Literally meaning “coming” or “arrival, ” this term, “advent” refers to the coming of Jesus Christ to earth to provide salvation by his life, death, resurrection and ascension. Christians now anticipate a second advent when Christ will return to earth in bodily form to receive the church and to judge the nations.
Some Terms • Parousia -A Greek word used to refer to the second coming of Jesus Christ at the end of history. Literally, the term means “presence. ” Hence it designates Christ’s return as the point at which he will be fully present to the world or his presence will be fully revealed.

CCS SYSTHEO ESCHATOLOGY PARTICULARS
• Christ was raised on the 3 rd Day • There must be a resurrection from the dead • W/O Resurrection – no life in Christ • Christ is firstfruits • In Adam all die – In Christ, life • The order: – Christ – Those in Christ at the parousia – Then the End RESURRECTION – 1 COR. 15
• The Manner – The Body (seed) must die for the new Body to live (Resurrected Body) – The Resurrected Body is of the same kind as the “seed” Body – What was perishable becomes imperishable – What was dishonorable becomes Glorious – What was natural becomes spiritual – Just as we bore the image of the man of dust – we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven RESURRECTION – 1 COR. 15
O L L FO T S I R H W C WE RESURRECTION – 1 COR. 15
• 13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. 15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words. RAPTURE – 1 THESS. 4
• We are not to grieve as having no hope • Because Jesus rose, those who have died will rise • When the Lord returns, He will raise them • He will also catch up those who are His, yet alive • We will always be with the Lord after that • This needs to be comforting RAPTURE – 1 THESS. 4
Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain. 2 And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, 3 and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while. • 4 Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. 5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years. • 7 And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison Millennial Kingdom – Rev. 20
