The Boston Tea Party December 1773 Colonists dressed as Indians ran aboard British ships that had recently landed in Boston Harbor Led by Samuel Adams colonists boarded five different ships and dumped the tea into the water showing their disapproval of the tax on tea.
Intolerable Acts 1774 Shortly after the tea party the British responded by enforcing the Coercive Acts or “Intolerable Acts” The acts punished Massachusetts by closing the port of Boston, forbidding town meetings, and reducing the powers of the legislature More British troops were also sent to the colony to enforce the acts
First Continental Congress Met in 1774 in Philadelphia to discuss the Coercive Acts and a solution 12/13 colonies sent delegates (no Georgia) The meeting was highly unsuccessful and the delegates wouldn’t come together again until the formation of the Second Continental Congress
