Catskill Neighbors is a community based volunteer organization
Catskill Neighbors is a community based volunteer organization founded by Reverend Ralph Darmstadt of Fleischmanns, NY. Our mission is to help Seniors wishing to remain safe and comfortable in their own homes. Transportation is just one of the important services we provide.
• • Help transport Seniors to local appointments or shopping. Visit Seniors to provide companionship and friendly conversation. We help them engage in activities such as puzzles and word games. Assist with household issues such as organization. Go on errands for Seniors who are homebound. Help with pets, such as walking a dog or visiting a Veterinarian. Procure essential supplies such as food or clothing. Work with agencies for needed services.
Our Headquarters is located in Delaware County in the Village of Fleischmanns. Recently we have established a presence in Pine Hill and Halcott. Our current catchment area includes the Route 28 corridor from Andes in Delaware County southeast to Phoenicia in Ulster County. We also go as far north as Prattsville in Greene County.
In the seven plus years that we have been in existence, we have provided services to 77 Seniors. Currently we are servicing 21 Seniors. Most of these Seniors are located in areas where public transportation is very limited or is not available at all.
Most of our Volunteers are located where the Counties of Delaware, Greene and Ulster come together. Many of the public services our Seniors require are only available in the County Seats of either Delhi, Catskill or Kingston. As you can see from the map, we are remote from these services.
Many of our Seniors reside in one County and require services in neighboring Counties. Several of the present transportation services do not cross County lines. That’s where our Volunteers come in. We try to limit our travel as far north as Albany, west to Cooperstown and east to Kingston for these special outings.
