What am I going to show you ! ● ● ● History Breeds Cat language My Cats Why I love cats
History: The beginnings in Egypt ● ● ● The first people to have domestic cats were the Egyptians around 4000 years ago. The Egyptians deified cats and had strict laws protecting them. Egyptian civilization was dependent on stored grain. Cats, unlike dogs, are nocturnal and could catch rats and mice therefore protecting the grain. The Egyptians had Middle Eastern wildcats, or ‘Felis silvestris’, which literally means “cat of the woods”.
History: Through the ages ● In Medieval times, cats had a bad reputation as they were associated with witches and heretics. ● Queen Victoria loved cats she especially loved one named White Heather. ● Throughout WW 1, cats were a common sight in the trenches and aboard ships where they hunted mice and rats. An estimated 500, 000 cats were dispatched to the trenches , where they killed rats and mice , some cats were even used to detect gas.
Breeds ● ● ● Cats in the UK can be feral (wild, without an owner) or domesticated (pets). There are 71 standard breeds, ranging from the smallest (the Singapura which usually weighs less than 5 pounds to the Main coon, which can weigh over 8 kgs. The top ten breeds in the UK are; British shorthair, Siamese, Main coon Persian , Ragdoll, Russian Blue, Scottish Fold , Savannah cat , Sphynx and Bengal Maine Coon Sphinx Ragdoll Persian Manx cat has no tail British shorthair Scottish Fold (Grace is Grandma’s cat)
Breeds: Distinctive breeds ● ● ● Bengals come in a variety of fantastic patterns divided into marbled or spotted or a mixture of both. When you shave the fur off (as we did when Nala was neutered, the spot pattern is the same on their skin!!) Sphynx cats most distinctive features are its nearly hairless body, tall ears wrinkles , peach-fuzz skin and round belly. Japanese Bobtails are born with a short , puffy tail like the tail of a rabbit, some of them even hop like bunnies when they run!!
Crazy Cat Facts ● Cats spend 70% of their life sleeping ! ● The oldest ever cat was Creme Puff, she died age 38 and 3 days according to the Guinness world records in 2010. ● Many people on the internet claim to have the fattest cat. Himmy from Australia, weighing in at a staggering 21. 3 kg (46. 8 lbs). These cats are obese though so this is not a good record to win! ● The most expensive cat is the Savannah , with some selling for £ 20, 000, whereas, domestic cats, or ‘moggies’, are the least expensive.
Basic Cat Body Language ! ● ● Cats communicate through their body language more than through the noises they make. Scared cats flap their ears forward and can make them selves small Terrified cats arch their backs. Nala’s tail goes fuzzy when she is frightened. Pebble uses her body to block Nala at the cat flap when she doesn’t want her to come in!
I have two cats Pebble and Nala. My Cats Pebble was a kitten taken from feral farm cats and Nala is part bengal* *The vet also calls her a ‘Naughty Tortie’
Pebble & Nala - their relationship Pebble and Nala have a difficult relationship. We had Pebble when I was at Pre. School; Nala joined us as a 6 weeks old kitten in October 2019. After a few weeks, Pebble and Nala started to dislike one another. They sleep in each others beds, eat each other food and Nala often jumps on Pebble, it’s almost like they're trying to be top cat ! Hopefully in the future they will get along a bit better and look after each other !!
Why I love cats !! I think cats are such a lovely thing to have in a house, most of the time they are well behaved and waking up to a cat purring in your face is the best ever start to the day! Cats make me happy because each one of them are special and have different personalities. They are clever and can sense when something is going on, when someone new is in the house or if you are sad. They have the cutest faces , and if you look at them on the side you can see their cheeky grin. You don’t have to take them out for a walk on a rainy day and they exercise themselves! If it was my choice i would have hundreds !!!!!!
