Cat Among The Pigeons by Agatha Christie Plot by Zyra Shahbazi
Conflict The protagonist is M. Poirot. The antagonist is the murderer. The conflict is that the murderer is killing teachers at Meadowbank, and nobody has the least idea who it is.
Exposition is where the characters, setting, and sometimes the conflict are introduced. It is the opening of summer term at Meadowbank, a highly respected school in England. The principal, Mrs. Bulstrode, vice-principal Ms. Vansittart, and Ms. Chadwick, a founder of the school, are welcoming people. Important students such as Julia Upjohn and Princess Shaista. There also other important members of the staff, such as Ann Shapland. (pg. 1 -19)
Rising Action are the events that move the plot forward. - - - Prince Ali and Bob Rawlinson (his private pilot) need to get out of Ramat before the Prince gets killed in the revolution. The Prince has precious jewels and gives them to Bob to get out of the country. Bob goes to his sister’s hotel room while she is out, and hides the jewels somewhere in her luggage. He leaves the hotel room, not knowing that there is a woman on the balcony next to the window, watching him with a mirror. (pg. 21 -44) Mrs. Springer, the gym teacher, is found shot in the Sports Pavilion. Mrs. Chadwick and Mrs. Johnson find her dead after seeing lights in there and hearing a gunshot. (pg. 115 -131) Mrs. Vansittart is found dead (she was hit by something heavy) in the sports pavilion, kneeling in front of Princess Shaista’s locker (she had been kidnapped the day before). She was found by Mrs. Chadwick, who was restless about Shaista’s disappearance and saw lights in the sports pavilion. (pg. 205 - 209)
Climax The climax is the most exciting moment in the story. M. Poirot proves that Ann Shapland is the killer and that she saw Bob Rawlinson concealing the jewels. She takes a gun out and attempts to shoot Mrs. Bulstrode, but Mrs. Chadwick throws herself on top of her and takes the bullet and is seriously injured. Mrs. Shapland is arrested.
Falling Action is the events that lead to the resolution. Mrs. Upjohn finally sees Julia again. (pg. 328329) - M. Poirot explains that Mrs. Chadwick murdered Mrs. Vansittart herself. (Ms. Shapland was not there and had an alibi. ) (pg. 331 -332) - Mrs. Bulstrode offers Mrs. Rich a partnership. She accepts. (pg. 336 -338) -
Resolution is when all conflicts are solved. Mr. Robinson, a government agent, gives the jewels to Prince Ali’s wife, who apparently married in England had a child named Allen. She decides not to keep them because of a verse in the Bible.
