Case Study 3 Jack Richards Cade Mersch Phoebe
Case Study #3 { Jack Richards, Cade Mersch
Phoebe Struckle is a 23 year old female who came in for an emergency appointment. She complains of a strong, persistent desire to urinate, a burning sensation during urination, lower back pain, and a low-grade fever. Microscopic analysis of her urine reveals leukocytes and some crystals. Subjective Data
Objective Data Upon examination, the patients results were as follows: Color: Yellow Clarity: Slightly Hazy p. H: 6 SG: 1. 005 – 1. 01 Protein- None Glucose- 100 mg/dl Ketones- None Erythrocytes- None Leukocytes- Present
Once we collected all of the data and reviewed the patients symptoms, we determined that the patient had a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). A second diagnosis that we originally considered was Renal Glycosuria, which is a rare condition in which glucose is excreted through the urine despite low or normal blood glucose levels. Assessment
Plan The patient will be given a prescription of Gentamicin to treat the infection. The patient will also have to drink an increased amount of fluid so her urine will be less concentrated and more able to flush out the infection-causing bacteria. The patient will return in two weeks to see if treatment is progressing in the right direction.
