Promotion Criteria You must obtain a minimum number of units in each grade level to be promoted to the next grade level: � 5 units required for promotion to the 10 th grade � 11 units required for promotion to the 11 th grade � 17 units required for promotion to the 12 th grade

CHS CORE COURSES FOR 9 TH GRADE STUDENTS

Ninth Grade Courses MATH § § § Foundations of Algebra * OR GSE Algebra I GSE Geometry Honors Algebra I OR Honors Geometry § SOCIAL STUDIES § § World Geography OR AP Human Geography (Expect a summer assignment. ) Calculator needed: The TI-36 Pro will be fine starting out. By Honors Algebra II, students will need a TI-84 Plus graphing calculator. *Algebra I Support may be required for students who need an additional math support course.

Ninth Grade Courses SCIENCE § § Environmental Science OR Honors Biology ENGLISH § § Ninth Literature OR Honors Ninth Literature (Expect a summer assignment. )

Health and Physical Education § Students are required to take both Health and Personal Fitness (1/2 courses to = 1 full credit) § Students who earn three credits in JROTC are not required to take health and personal fitness for graduation. § *Summer Personal Fitness/Health option

Honors and AP Classes § § You may want to think about your student and his/her traits as a student. Honors and AP require more time and more work than most classes. Almost all honors and AP courses require reading, writing, and activities outside of the classroom. Students must learn to manage their time.

Honors Classes Honors Courses get 0. 5 additional Quality Point § Example: Final Grade= 78 (C) = 2 + 0. 5 Quality Point in weighted GPA. Transcript grade is 2. 5 in Weighted GPA. § Same weighting applies to Dual Enrollment Courses.

NEW CTAE PATHWAY Computer Science Intro to Digital Technology (1 st Course in Pathway)

Athletic Eligibility § § § Any student entering ninth grade for the first time is eligible to participate in athletic activities for the first semester. At the end of the ninth grade year, the student must be on track to graduate (minimum 5 credits earned). Students must have an updated physical on file.

Registration Process § § § 8 th grade core academic teachers will enter academic course recommendations in Power. School. Elective sheets will go out February 3 rd at CMS. Students should take them home and review them with parents. Elective sheets should be returned to 8 th grade homeroom teachers by February 5 at 8: 30 am.

Important Dates � � � February 8, 2021: 8 th Grade Students will register online for their electives. High school counselors will assist with this process at CMS during science classes. March 3 -5, 2021: 8 th Grade Student Conferences at CMS. Every student will have the opportunity to meet with a CHS staff member to review course selections before they are finalized. August 9, 2021, 6: 00 p. m. : Freshman Fee Day and Open House
