Carribean Carnival: Statutory Requirements Geography & History: • Locating countries using maps, noting key physical and human characteristics; understanding geographical similarities and differences; human geography • Social history Science: Thinking Skills: • What do the children already know? • What would they like to find out? • What have the learnt? • • Animals including humans: Describe the simple functions of the basic parts of the digestive system in humans. Children will have learnt through the tasks planned: • To locate the Caribbean and UK on a map. • To compare natural geographical features of the UK and Caribbean. • To compare man-made features of the UK and Caribbean. • About the movement of people from the Caribbean to the UK. • About the influence of Caribbean culture in the UK including music and food. • About Caribbean artists and art work. Social Studies: • Collaborative and co-operative working • Turn taking • Listening skills English: • We will be studying the text ‘Coming To England’ by Floella Benjamin • Creative and descriptive writing • Newspaper reports • Letter and diary writing • Performance poetry & Drama – speaking and listening • Story maps • Handwriting 4 x per week Maths: • Place Value • Addition and Subtraction including use of the inverse operation. • Length and money • Maths discreet planning.
Art/DT: • Will learn about the varied styles work of different Caribbean artists. • Develop painting and mixed media techniques to create work in the style of a chosen artist. Computing: Multimedia and word processing • Recognise key features of layout and design. • With support, plan structure and layout of document. • Select and import graphics. • Select and import sounds • Develop increasing sense of audience. RE: Creation: Children will explore the story in Genesis and will learn: • Where the Creation story fits into the ‘Big Story’ of the Bible. • To make links between Genesis 1 and what Christians believe about God and Creation. • To understand how belief affects the actions of Christians. • Ask questions and suggest what might be important in the Creation Story for both Christians and non-Christians.
