Vacuum Cleaning Procedures 1. Assemble your equipment and supplies. Put on any appropriate personal protective equipment 2. Pick up light trash from carpet 3. Vacuum the carpet thoroughly 4. Use an attachment to clean hard-to-reach areas. Vacuum along baseboards, next to furniture, and behind door 5. When finished, replace walkoff mats

Vacuum Cleaning Tips 1. Maintain your vacuum cleaner for strong performance and safety • Replace vacuum bags when 2/3 full • Inspect cords for cracks and breaks • Have cords repaired or replaced promptly 2. Never unplug the vacuum by pulling on the cord 3. Unplug by grasping the plug 4. Don’t try to vacuum up wet spills with your back pack vacuum • Wet spills can be an electrical hazard • Water can damage the vacuum parts • Water can cause the vacuum bag to rip or encourage bacterial growth and odors in the bag • Carpet has a “direction, ” called the lay, due to the way it is manufactured. Raising the nap and standing up the fibers with a carpet rake improves appearance.

Spot Removal Procedures You will need: • Wet Floor signs / blockades • Any appropriate PPE • Absorbent white cloth • Blunt scraper • Tamping brush • Extractor with hand tool or spray bottle • Spotter guide • Spot removal kit

Spot Removal Procedures 1. Identify the spot • Note the appearance, location, color, shape, and odor • Check the spotter guide for the right product(s) to use 2. Assemble your equipment and supplies 3. Put on appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, as stated on the product label and MSDS 4. Post Wet Floor signs or other blockades • Prevent spots from being spread by unsuspecting traffic • Keep traffic away from your spotter chemicals and wet carpet 5. Pick up large debris from carpet 6. Test the spotter in an inconspicuous place • Apply spotter and cover with a clean, white cloth • After 5 -7 minutes, check the cloth for color transfer and fiber damage 7. Apply spotter to the outside edges of the spot • Do not over wet the spot

Spot Removal Procedures 8. Agitate with a blunt scraper • Use a blunt scraper and work solution towards the middle of the spot • Agitation helps loosen larger soils • Don’t spread the spot by scrubbing with a brush 9. Allow the spotter to remain on the spot according to label directions 10. Blot the treated area with a clean, white cloth • Continue blotting until no more soils come up into the cloth IF YOU USE AN ABSORBENT POWDER TO TREAT SPOTS: 11. Treat fresh wet spots with absorbent compound 12. Rinse the treated area with cool water and blot or extract 13. Raise the nap with a carpet rake 14. Remove Wet Floor signs or other blockades after the spot is dry

Pre-Spray Procedures You will need: • Any appropriate PPE • Wet Floor signs or other blockades • Vacuum cleaner • Pump sprayer or lower pressure electric sprayer • Pre-spray cleaner

Pre-Spray Procedures 1. Pick up large debris from carpet 2. Vacuum and roll up walk-off mats • Store mats out of the way 3. Vacuum carpet thoroughly 4. Assemble your equipment and supplies 5. Put on appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, as stated on the product label and MSDS 6. Prepare your pre-spray detergent solution • Fill the sprayer 3/4 full with cool or warm water - Do not overfill • Measure pre-spray detergent and pour into the sprayer • Follow label instructions for dilution rates • Finish filling with water - Do not overfill

Pre-Spray Procedures 7. Post Wet Floor signs or other blockades • Identify your work area 8. Pre-spray the area to be cleaned • Pay special attention to high traffic or heavily soiled areas • Don’t saturate carpet • Avoid overspray onto walls and furniture 9. Allow pre-spray to remain on the carpet according to label directions • Don’t spray too big of an area • Don’t let the pre-spray dry 10. Rinse and store your equipment 11. Remove Wet Floor signs or other blockades after the carpet is dry

Bonnet Cleaning Procedures You will need: • Any appropriate PPE • Wet Floor signs / blockades • Vacuum cleaner • Rotary floor machine • Cotton/synthetic yarn pad & pad driver • Pump sprayer • Cleaner in a labeled spray bottle • Carpet drying fan

Bonnet Cleaning Procedures 1. Remove large debris and move light or moveable furniture • Place foil under heavy legs • Use safe lifting methods 2. Vacuum and roll up walk-off mats • Store mats out of the way 3. 4. Vacuum the carpet thoroughly Treat spots on the carpet • Follow the spotting steps in the Spot Removal Procedures Section 5. Bonnet Cleaning Procedures FOR “WET” CLEANING: • Fill your bucket 1/2 full with warm water • Add the measured amount of bonnet detergent 8. Post Wet Floor signs or other blockades 9. Pre-spray high traffic areas and heaviest soils • Allow pre-spray to work for 5 minutes IF YOU USE THE DRY METHOD: 10. Spray the bonnet and carpet with cleaning solution • Work in 10 x 15 foot (3 x 4. 6 m) sections • Allow the cleaner to work for 1 -2 minutes – IF YOU USE THE WET METHOD: 11. Soak yarn pads in bucket and wring out thoroughly 12. Center the bonnet under the rotary floor machine 13. Slowly buff the carpet • Concentrate on high soil areas • Work in 10 X 15 foot (3 x 4. 6 m) sections • Don’t let the carpet or pad get dry

Bonnet Cleaning Procedures 14. When the bonnet gets dirty, turn it over. When both sides are dirty: • Replace bonnet if using the dry method • Rinse and wring the bonnet if using the wet method 15. Continue buffing until the entire work area is clean 16. Dry the carpet with a carpet fan 17. Raise the nap with a carpet rake or vacuum cleaner 18. Clean your equipment and return it to its proper location • Rinse bonnets. If very dirty, they can be laundered in a washing machine. • Rinse equipment and hang to dry 19. Remove Wet Floor signs or other blockades after the carpet is dry 20. Replace walk-off mats • Check back of mats to make sure they are clean and dry • Never cover wet carpeting with a mat

Slowly scrub the area with the shampoo machine • Follow equipment manufacturer’s directions • Scrub to produce foam • Don’t over wet the carpet 10. Dry the carpet with a carpet fan • Place fan out of traffic areas • Position cords to avoid trips or falls 11. When the carpet is dry, vacuum to collect loose soils and dry shampoo • Raise the nap with a carpet rake 12. Clean your equipment and return it to its proper location 13. Shampoo Cleaning Tips 1. Wet the pile • Carpet fibers must be evenly wet, but not soaked 2. Release soils • To clean thoroughly, the shampoo must loosen and lift soils away from the fiber 3. Create a dense foam with agitation by the shampoo equipment • A thick foam will hold the solid particles in suspension and keep them from settling back onto the fibers 4. Dry quickly to a crisp residue • Once the soil-holding foam is dry, it can be collected with a vacuum cleaner 5. To speed drying times and help avoid mildew odors in carpets: • use a carpet fan • make sure HVAC systems are working • open windows (if possible and if humidity is not high) • make a dry pass with extractor or wet vac • make a pass with a dry bonnet 6. “Break in” your new shampoo brush • Running the brush over a wet concrete floor will remove the sharp edges on the bristles and be easier on the carpet. 7. Never put a walk-off mat over wet carpeting

Carpet Extraction Procedures 8. Prepare your extraction or rinse solution • Fill solution tank with hot water • Add measured amount of extraction cleaner or extraction rinse 9. Post Wet Floor signs or other blockades • Use several signs to mark off your working area 10. Pre-spray the carpet • Work in a manageable section • Allow the detergent to work for 10 -15 minutes 11. Extract the carpet • Follow equipment manufacturer’s instructions • Extract in overlapping paths, pulling the machine back towards you • Make a second “dry” pass with the solution off • Collect any or as much moisture as possible 12. Empty the recovery tank when full. Refill the solution tank. • If foam collects in recovery tank, add an anti-foam agent • Complete the procedure until the entire carpet is clean

Carpet Extraction Procedures 13. Dry the carpet with a carpet fan • Place the fan out of traffic areas • Turn up HVAC or open doors and windows 14. Raise the carpet nap – Finish the job with a vacuum cleaner or carpet rake 15. Remove Wet Floor signs or other blockades after the carpet is dry 16. Clean your equipment and return it to its proper location • Rinse extractor solution and recover tanks • Rinse filters and hoses • Wash under shrouds 17. Replace walk-off mats • Check backs of mats to make sure they are clean and dry • Never cover wet carpeting with a mat

Carpet Extraction Tips There are three extraction strategies. Contact a Professional who will help you pick the best one for your carpet, soil and resources. Strategy 1: Spray the carpet with Heavy. Duty Prespray, wait 15 minutes, then extract with Extraction Rinse Strategy 2: Spray the carpet with Extraction Cleaner, wait 15 minutes, then extract with Extraction Rinse FOR HEAVIEST SOILS: Strategy 3: Spray the carpet with Heavy. Duty Pre-spray, agitate with a shampoo brush and 175 RPM rotary floor machine, wait 15 minutes, then extract with Extraction Rinse

Carpet Extraction Procedures Schedule carpet extraction on a regular basis according to conditions or specific areas: • HEAVY SOIL • MEDIUM SOIL • LIGHT SOIL Every 1 -3 months or as required Every 4 -6 months or as required Every 12 -24 months or as required 1. When the extractor appears slow when recovering solution, check exterior hoses for tight connections or leaks. Check internal filters for plugs that can reduce vacuum pressure. 2. When solution is not being delivered to the carpet, it may be caused by: • Hard water buildup plugging in the solution spray valves. If this happens, clean with a lime remover and rinse. • Valves may be plugged by carpet fiber. Inspect and clean. • An empty solution tank that needs a refill. 3. Setting the pile with a carpet rake will help the drying process. 4. Check the vacuum power of your equipment.

Upholstery & Fabric Cleaning Procedures 1. Assemble your equipment and supplies 2. Put on appropriate Personal Protective Equipment, as stated on the product label and MSDS 3. Prepare your upholstery cleaning solution in the extractor • Measure the recommended detergent and pour into the extractor tank • Add hot water to the fill line 4. Place a waterproof drop cloth under the furniture being cleaned 5. Vacuum the furniture thoroughly • Use an attachment for hard-to-reach spots • Be careful not to scratch wood or metal surfaces 6. Select the spotter • Inspect for spots and stains • Select the right spotter for the job. Use the Spotter Selection Guide to help identify and select.

Upholstery & Fabric Cleaning Procedures 7. Spot clean fabrics • Apply spotter to a clean, white towel • Blot the spot, working from the outside edges toward the center of the spot • Rinse with an extractor or damp cloth 8. Clean cushions with the extractor • Do not over wet • After cleaning, place two cushions in an “A” position for drying. Place a piece of white paper between to avoid color transfer or browning. 9. Clean the top and inside arms, front, kickboard, outside arms and outside back • Work from dirtiest to cleanest areas, bottom to top 10. Clean your equipment and return it to its proper location 11. Allow furniture to dry before replacing cushions
