Lyndsi Kirk I grew up in Illinois. I moved to BIrmingham in 2003 and have loved the south ever since. I am married to my husband, Adam. We like to be outside working in the yard or at our farm, fishing, or scuba diving. I also love playing tennis.

Growth Mindset What is it? We used to think that our intelligence was fixed, meaning we were either smart or we weren’t. Scientists have proven over and over again that simply is not true. Our brain acts like a muscle, the more we use it…the stronger (and smarter) our brain becomes. Fixed Mindset? Avoid challenges Give up easily Ignore feedback Threatened by other people’s success Try hard to appear as smart and as capable as possible Growth Mindset? Absences • Excused absences include illness of the student, death in the immediate family, and religious holidays • • Parents must fill out the online absence form found on the CBS website. This form is filled out for illness or for pre-planned vacations. Below is the link to the form: https: //www. mtnbrook. k 12. al. us/Page/11412 • If an excuse is not sent in online, the absence will be considered unexcused. • When a student’s unexcused absences reach seven (7) days in any academic year, the principal may refer the issue to the district attendance officer, who shall consider filing a complaint/petition with the Family Court.
Birthdays • The student’s birthday may be celebrated on the birthday or a day close to it. • Summer birthdays can be celebrated on the student’s half birthday or in May • The parent may purchase a birthday treat in the lunchroom for their child or each child in the class. These treats are $1 a piece. Please contact the lunchroom AND your child’s teacher to arrange this. • Birthday party invitations may be given out in school only if the entire class is included (unless it is just all boys or all girls).
Lunch • Menus are on the CBES website. • Plate lunches cost $3. 00. • Students are allowed to get a milk or a water from the lunchroom. Please go over with your child how many drinks you like them to purchase during lunchtime. They are charged each time they buy a milk. • You will get an email from Pay. Pams when your child’s lunch account is low. • We will eat in our classroom and outside until further notice! Your child can bring a small towel or blanket to use during lunch!
Medicine • All medication must be turned into the school nurse. • No medication is given by the classroom teacher. • If a child visits the health room, a health form notice will be sent home that day. • Sick children should be kept at home. They must be fever free for 24 hours before returning back to school.
CARPOOL • If your child needs help buckling their seat belt, please pull into a parking spot (not along the curb) to take time to do this. • If your child is to meet someone in particular at a certain place, please make sure that your child understands this completely. • You must have a yellow card tag to pick up your child. If you do not have this, they will prompt you with what to do. • If your child is a walker, please make sure they are aware of their rainy day plan. Rainy day will be announced by 2: 30, and all students will go through normal carpool if this happens! • Be aware of the No Cell Phone Zone. • Please refer to our new Cell Phone Policy on the Cherokee Bend website
Items Needed! • • Extra mask Bloomers/shorts underneath dresses and skirts. Tennis Shoes for P. E. If needed please send extra change of clothes in backpack. Please label all personal belongings. Please send a snack with your child each day. Please have a backpack large enough for your child to unpack and pack it.
SNACK • Each child should bring a snack from home each day. • The snack should include one individual healthy food snack and a clear drink. The snack and drink should be something that they can individually open and if it requires an utensil please pack this with their snack. • Please be aware of potential food allergies in your child’s class. Also, please make sure your child is aware the difference between their lunch and snack.

Communication • E-mail is the most efficient way to get in touch with me during the day. If you send an email about carpool after 2 p. m. , please call the front office to make sure your child’s teacher gets the message. • We will be using the Seesaw app to communicate occasionally. Things we may share student activities, pictures, and student work. • Please know we are engaged in instruction from 8: 00 -2: 50 and may not be able to check or return emails. • Please check your child’s take home folder nightly and send back cleaned out each day. • We meet for parent-teacher conferences two times a year. Fall conferences in October and spring conferences in March.
