CARIES DETECTION SYSTEM IN DENTAL X-RAY IMAGES USING FUZZY C-MEANS Ts. DR RAJESWARI RAJU NUR SARAH BALQIS BINTI MOHAMAD ADIB Introduction Caries Detection System in Dental X-ray Images is a system to show whether the x-ray images has caries or based on Fuzzy c-means algorithm. Nowadays, people with dental diseases such as caries increasing rapidly in the world. In order to detect caries, most commonly method that is used by dentists is diagnosing the caries manually using radiography. However, x-ray images sometimes consist of noise and low contrast that make the dentists difficult to identify caries in the x-ray images and may lead to wrongly in diagnosing patients. Therefore, Caries Detection System will help dentists to detect caries in the dental x-ray images to overcome limitations having by the x-ray images. • • • Objectives Experiment Setup To identify requirements in detecting caries that presence in dental x-ray images. To develop an effective Dental Caries Detection System using Fuzzy c-means. To test the effectiveness of the proposed Caries Detection System in dental x-ray images. The dataset contain 120 images of dental x-ray. The system tested for each images to check how well Fuzzy c-means can cluster and segment the image to show the caries region and compare the accuracy of Fuzzy cmeans detect the image whether it has caries or not. The result of accuracy is then compared with previous research papers. Methodology Prototype System Results and Findings Conclusion In conclusion, this study achieved its objectives. From the results, we can see that Fuzzy c-means can be used to cluster or segment the image to show there is no caries or not in the dental x-ray images. The functionality of the system works well as expected except for several parts but it still show a good performance of the system based on the results showed previously.
