Mental Health Field We work to properly care for or diagnose and treat people who have mental illnesses, emotional difficulties, substance abuse, and behavioral problems. This also is including dealing with short terms issues due to life events and stressors; death and grief, transitions and moves, divorce, illness and health, work issues, etc. Mental Health Careers have excellent job outlooks with employment expected to grow at least faster than the average for all occupations between 2016 and 2026. This is due to increasing demand for services, and a lower supply of professionals to service them. Up and coming in the field: Tele-therapy and Virtual Counseling. Provides more equitable access to mental resources, location is no longer is restricting factor to seek the proper care. Flexible time scheduling, accommodates non-traditional schedules. Transportation is no longer a barrier. Challenges: Confidentiality via the internet (how can we ensure it and protect the client), competency and supervision of practitioners, studies ongoing efficacy online vs in person. Equity to internet-especially condifidental- can be a barrier.
