CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION (CTE)
n CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION is a program of study that involves a multi-year sequence of courses that integrate core academic knowledge with technical and occupational knowledge to provide students with pathways to post-secondary education and careers.
THE VISION n To engage youth by contextualizing their learning by interest area n To make learning relevant by integrating academic and career instruction n To allow students to succeed in school and in the world of work n To teach students transferable skills that will lead to success in all future careers n To give students connections to learning, work and adults in the real world

Career Pathways
CTE Course Sequences n Are a graduation requirement n Contain a minimum of 30 units n May be CTE, ROP and/or Academic n Must lead to certification, employment and/or post-secondary opportunity n Must have business partner(s) n Must cover all standards n May be supported by and eligible for supplemental funding

Foundation Standards n Support and extend the skills & competencies identified by SCANS n They are uniform in all sectors, although there is slight variation n Focus on the basic skills ALL students in that sector will need to succeed in the workplace
Pathway Standards n Pathway standards are concise statements that reflect the essential knowledge and skills students need for success in the career pathway.
CTE Frameworks n Frameworks are the “how” in implementing the CTE model curriculum standards by providing a context for the content, discussing best practices and exploring important issues in the implementation of those standards.
