Career and College Promise Gaston College Overview of High School Programs • GC works with 25 high schools in both Gaston and Lincoln • counties (public, charter, and private high schools) as well as an increasing number of home school students. Eligible high school juniors and seniors can enroll in college courses through the Career and College Promise (CCP) Program. – CCP provides seamless dual enrollment educational opportunities tuition-free for eligible North Carolina high school students. – CCP allows students to accelerate completion of college certificates, diplomas, and associate degrees that lead to college transfer or provide entry-level job skills. – CCP is very prescriptive. www. gaston. edu

Career and College Promise Entrance Criteria • Must be a junior or senior • Must have a weighted GPA of 3. 0 on high school courses • For CTE Certificates, must have a weighted GPA of 3. 0 on high school courses OR principal approval • Must demonstrate college readiness on an approved assessment (PLAN, PSAT, ACT, COMPASS, Accuplacer, ASSET) • For CTE Certificates, assessments are only needed if courses have prerequisites • Must maintain 2. 0 college GPA after 2 courses www. gaston. edu
Career & College Promise Additional Notes • CCP students can enroll in one CT Pathway only (AA , AE, or AS) • CCP students can enroll in one CT Pathway and one C-TE Pathway at the same time • CCP students can take two C-TE Pathways at the same time • Approval is required by the high school principal/designee and the College in order to make any pathway changes. www. gaston. edu
Career & College Promise Process for Enrolling • Counselors meet with students, and complete CCP Enrollment Forms. Completion of a new form is required for all students each semester. • New students complete online GC Application for Admissions: – Access the online Gaston College Application for Admissions at http: //apply. cfnc. org/application/Gast. C/NCCCSUndergraduate/Gast. CUndergrad. App. • If test scores are required, students must complete the online Gaston College Application for Admissions prior to scheduling and taking the NC DAP (North Carolina Diagnostic Assessment and Placement) test. Other test scores listed on the second page of the CCP Enrollment Form are also acceptable. • Attach required documentation – Copy of an assessment with scores that demonstrate college readiness for all College Transfer Pathways and some CTE Pathways – see pathway sequences – Official high school transcript www. gaston. edu
Career & College Promise Cost Savings • NC General Assembly authorizes community colleges to waive tuition for high school students enrolled in college courses through the CCP Program – If high school students had to pay tuition, the tuition costs are $76. 00 per credit hour. • Savings for CT Pathways are approximately $2432 (32 SHC) • Savings for CTE Certificate Pathways range from $1064 $1824 (14 -24 SHC) www. gaston. edu

Career & College Promise Student Expectations • Follow directions on Student Login Form and log into Web. Advisor, set up • • • GC student email account and Blackboard account Understand college expectations are different than high school expectations Attend class regularly (face to face, hybrid, or online) Online courses take as much time as traditional face-to-face courses. Students need to set aside sufficient amount of time for study and are required to participate actively in online discussions and group assignments. Students need to login each day to keep up with the content flow, complete assignments, follow discussions and communicate with your classmates and instructor (in a professional not “texting” manner). Career & College Promise CCP Student Success Data • With CCP enrollment at an all time high, data from Fall 2015 was gathered to assess how students are performing in college classes. – Between 84% – 99 % of CCP students enrolled earned an A, B or C on college coursework (varied by LEA). – Of the total 2146 semester hours of college credits earned, 93% earned an A, B, or C. • Growth continued into Spring 2016. – Between 77% - 93% of CCP students enrolled earned an A, B or C on college coursework (varied by LEA). – Of the total 2366 semester hours of college credits earned, 80% earned an A, B, or C. www. gaston. edu

Career & College Promise • Important Update: • On 20 January 2017, the State Board of Community Colleges ("SBCC") voted to amend 1 E SBCCC 800. 2 – "General Provisions. " The SBCC amended 1 E SBCCC 800. 2 – "General Provisions" to clarify the issue of waiver eligibility when a student’s status may change mid-term. The intent is for the waiver to apply to any course section offered during the academic term, regardless of when the term starts, if a student meets the eligibility requirements as of the first day of the term. • Beginning Feb. 1 st, 2017 (today), CCP students who are eligible for CCP at the beginning of the term are eligible for the entire term (not just the first session/mini-mester). www. gaston. edu
