Vision and mission Statements Vision: • To preach the Kingdom of God to the un-churched and unreached nations of the world through caring ministries. Mission: • To equip and perfect the saints for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, Eph 4: 12. Care Bible Church Vision: To preach the kingdom of God to the unreached and unengaged nations of the world through caring ministries.
SWOT analysis- Strengths p 1/2 • • • Great vision and mission. No one can say they don’t know our vision and what we stand for. Apostle and Ma. Moruti are committed and totally sold out to God’s word at Klipfontein and surrounding areas and that inspires others to do the same. They are great (not perfect) parents, who are hands on, supportive and we learn a lot from them. There is growth in the quality of lives of the partners seen in increased attendance at prayers and also quantity seen in number of visitors. Great initiatives e. g. clinic, cleaning campaign, social care, bereavement, concierge, etc. Existence of Bible school encourages proper growth for FHM leaders. FHMs are led by mature leaders Many partners have found a home at CBC and have the mind to work and fulfil the vision. The environment allows for individuals to utilize their God given abilities. There is a clear leadership structure, constitution and policies. We are all starting to use media for easier communication between leaders and other partners. • • The church is easily accessible and also the building blends in to the surrounding community well in that it does not look too flamboyant on the outside and this also makes it a church for the community. All age groups are properly represented in different ministries, i. e. from children to couples. Groups such as Fox Fire came to equip us and help with outreaches, though we are not sure if we fully utilised them. There is a structured programme for FHM i. e. Topical bible manual FHMs are supported and driven from the top. We saw fruits as far as support for bereaved is concerned this year, as leaders together with bereavement team are starting to co-ordinate and assist the Apostle in some of the responsibilities. Children of God are being strengthened, renewed, encouraged, delivered and healed through praise and worship. 5
SWOT analysis- Strengths p 2/2 • • The church is led by the Holy spirit and the ministry of the word is good, relevant and people always come out with something tangible. Administration wise the church is run well as there is structure and order. The Church assets are well taken care of most of the time. We have a very good leadership structure, with delegation of departmental heads to organize conferences, seminars, outings etc. which has encouraged growth, maturity and responsibility. Accessibility of the leaders especially the senior pastors has made it easy to promote unity, cordial consultation and addressing problems immediately. Social care is doing great work of leading people to Christ. Together we can do more. The process of welcoming visitors from the door, to the standing ovation and talking to them after service is very good. They have a sense of belonging and feel welcomed and loved. • • • Notable successes in public departments such as the praise team, ushers, concierge and counsellors has established a reputation for excellence. The invitation of different guest speakers on a regular basis, has helped expose the church to all the five-fold ministry gifts thereby promoting church growth. The promotion of education, career-mindedness, support for students as well as the Apostle writing books has encouraged a culture of reading, learning and progressive development. We might not be mastering this one yet but we are a caring, loving church. We have created a safe, Godly learning environment for the kids of Klipfontein View. This shows that we are a caring church. When we sing rooftop and celebrate birthdays, people feel celebrated, loved and there is that sense of belonging again. Children love this! 6
SWOT analysis-Weaknesses p 1/2 • • • Many great initiatives started but without effective planning and clearly communicated monitoring mechanisms and measures of success and therefore we cant be sure of the impact. Do we have a clear understanding of what services our community needs or do we offer them what we can? E. g. do we know why some are unemployed, why so many teens are falling pregnant and see to be out of order, etc. This might result in great initiatives not yielding the required results because they are not based on proper data to address specific needs. Outreach has been poor and minimal, we are more inward-looking than outward-looking in our service to the community. Communication through different media is not consistent and not always effective. Coaching program launched at executive level but it was not implemented by all. Some church assets are at times used for personal use at the disadvantage of church related activities. E. g. router taken home, then the internet cannot be used for church activities at that time. • • • No pastoral care team to ensure Apostle and Ma. Moruti are always taken care of. Long breaks of Apostle not preaching may derail the vision of the church and create inconsistencies in uniting the church towards one goal. Structures are not followed through as an example, we have clusters but the only cluster that seems to be functional is the Major ministries, people in the church are not even aware of some of these structures. Giving has been poor because we do not encourage people to give much as we have created an impression that CBC is ok financially, a good example is fundraising for the live recording. However there are many times when money is requested from people and we need to find ways to structure the way we ask for funds going forward. To encourage time keeping, let us ensure we start and finish services on time. Let people be informed if this is not adhered to. As leaders and partners of CBC we should make it a priority to follow up on someone that we haven‘t seen for a while. It is not Apostle’s responsibility. (major ministries decided to do this) 7
SWOT analysis- Weaknesses p 2/2 • • Do we have the right leaders in executive and extended leadership levels doing the right assignments based on their passion, abilities, willingness to learn and grow? Not all leaders show the necessary commitment and are solutions orientated. There is still an element of going over the cluster leaders directly to Apostle on issues which could have been resolved with the cluster leader. It brings to question whether the cluster leaders have the right level of authority, sense of ownership and responsibility, passion, abilities and willingness to do their assignments and if they have been affirmed at all levels of leadership. Apostle needs to focus on strategic issues while cluster leaders focus on ensuring that the strategy is implemented through sound operational plans. Leaders need to respect each other, communicate well among each other and work together in each others projects. We don’t ‘support’ individuals but we all get involved to fulfil the vision. It is not right for teams to be called to meetings, without the knowledge of that teams' leader. Executive leadership needs to communicate decisions made to the whole leadership on a regular basis so that they are always informed. This just ensures everyone knows what is going on and builds trust. • • Leaders don’t always sit in front as requested, during exam times the front chairs are empty. Leaders are not always leading by example: punctuality, attendance and communication. We have a lot of gifted people seated down not involved in departments and that makes it difficult to tap into their gifts and abilities. Many of them don’t know what they can be involved in. There is inconsistency in the Pastorate where Pastors come and go most of them without longevity and commitment. There is inconsistency in the whole leadership. People accept leadership roles, months down the line they resign or disappear without any explanation. We are not following up enough as the discipleship is still new. Members are comfortable and complacent in their FHM groups to the point of finding it difficult to separate for the sake of opening other groups. We need to identify and develop new home ministry leaders. Difficulties in Christians opening they houses for FHM. 8
SWOT analysis- Opportunities p 1/2 • • • Effectively plan all our strategic initiatives to ensure we are able to provide resources needed to achieve results. This will also filter to all other projects. E. g. if we have a youth camp, how do we measure success and achievement of objectives after the camp has taken place? Potential to tap into government initiatives, funding and support for our projects through collaborative relationships with organisations such as CPF, social development, etc. and through a registered NPO. Leaders can use different means to communicate if someone will not be at church for a Sunday service or conferences and also important updates for leaders. This will ensure clear communication at all times. • • • Improve collaboration between ministries to ensure that all programs and projects across ministries are aligned to theme of the year and the vision of the church to ensure maximum impact. E. g. . Men and ladies have joint outreaches to better support each other. Have more regular leadership engagements (lunches, camps, workshops, creative sessions, etc. ) to ensure the relationship is good and flow of ideas is always encouraged. Church can grow to a point of having 3 services a Sunday. There opportunities for the FHM to assist the broader church in shepherding, following up, nurturing the folk; There opportunities for the FHM to assist the broader church in identifying individual’s gifts; 9
SWOT analysis- Opportunities p 2/2 • • The library can be better utilised by ensuring that people know of new books, CDs, DVDs, etc. on offer and even the community is encouraged to use it. Advertising of the bookshop and library should also be creative and age appropriate. We should see how we can better use home ministries as growth centers and feeder programs into the church by finding ways to make them better and more effective outreach/evangelical vehicles. Consider having a midweek service as a vehicle to also win more souls. The conveyor belt program recently introduced by Ma. Apostle is a powerful strategy to keep people in the church while at the same time fostering growth. It should be taken seriously by the entire leadership and implemented wholly. • • Introduce different ministries on a monthly basis to ensure people know which ministries they can participate in. Names, pictures and short descriptions of leaders and ministries they lead should be put up in church. An effective communication team will aid in ensuring all projects, activities, announcements are communicated to the right people, in the right method and at the right time. TV minisitry can be fully utilized to reach out. Lot of ministerial areas to exploit i. e. Prison ministry, people with terminal illness, etc. 10
SWOT analysis- Threats • • Failure to discipline apparent misbehaving people has discouraged others from serving effectively. We need to check our discipline methods and ensure they are consistently applied. Increasing poverty and other social economic ills in klipfontein can result in us pouring endless funds, time and effort without end if initiatives are not properly planned, co-ordinated and executed to achieve specific objectives over a specified time. E. g. . Number of people receiving food parcels is increasing and we need a holistic approach to help the people out of poverty so that they can then help others. • Klipfontein is relatively small but already has 4 churches. Care Bible Church Vision: To preach the kingdom of God to the unreached and unengaged nations of the world through caring ministries. 11
The Environment we live in What factors outside CBC can positively or negatively impact CBC’s fulfilment of strategy? PESTLE Positive Political • Negative Possible Government and business support can enable us to run successful community programs. • • • Red tape Fights among residents from the same or different political parties. Change in management in government can result in existing contracts/agreements being changed. Economic • With proper planning and communication, its possible to run initiatives which help deal with unemployment, poverty and crime • Economic hardships resulting in high unemployment, poverty and crime. Social • Because Klipfontein is small township, its possible to mobilise enough people to start working on dealing with social ills. • Multi cultural society with serious social ills such as HIV, immigrants without IDs, high drug use, high pregnancy rates, unemployment, etc. Exact demographics unknown. • Technological • Technology enables easier communication on services, needs, etc. • Reaching the specific age groups with specific services can be a challenge. Legal • Information available on the legal requirements • Strict and time consuming legal requirements to get funding from government and business. Legal requirements impacting on church planting. Environmental • • Few or none of the activities are not environmentally friendly. Care Bible Church Vision: To preach the kingdom of God to the unreached and unengaged nations of the world through caring ministries. There about 5 churches in Klip. 12
