Cards 39 -42 JACOB’S OTHER NAME JACOB was the son of Isaac and Rebekah and was they younger twin brother of Esau. He grew up to be a quiet man, a shepherd, and was always his mother’s favorite. But Jacob was a tricky man too. He wanted to have God’s special blessing. This blessing had been passed on from Abraham to Isaac and would be expected to go to Esau, Jacob’s older brother. One day Jacob used some food he’d cooked to bribe Esau to give him the rights of the oldest son. Later he disguised himself as Esau so that Isaac would give him the special blessing. He brought a lot of presents in case Esau was still angry. Before he met Esau, Jacob prayed very much. God blessed Jacob and changed his name to Israel. That is why God’s people are often called the children of Israel When the two brothers met, thy hugged each other and then lived in peace.
