WINDING DOWN CMC
November • Begin talking about Cardinal • Issue Polk County cards to customers using our libraries with other cards.
December • Stop accepting new holds on items only owned by other libraries • Hide other CMC libraries in the public catalog • When you check a CMC item out to a customer, tell her about the upcoming consortium change. • If she wants to return the item in Polk County, encourage her to do so before January 25 because after that we won’t be in the same consortium.
January • Stop filling holds between CMC libraries. • Encourage customers to return Rutherford-owned items as soon as they are finished with them.
Post-Migration • For a period, continue returning CMC items via courier • After that, we’ll treat them as we would items from Lanier or Spartanburg. • Polk accounts will be removed from the TLC database • CMC charges won’t migrate to Cardinal; those accounts are at the discretion of charging library
WHAT’S NEW WITH CARDINAL?
OVERDUES WORK DIFFERENTLY • Overdue fines will get added to accounts every night, rather than waiting until an item is returned • Backdating check-in will remove associated fines from that period
CUSTOMER FRIENDLIER RULES • CHECKOUT PERIODS: • New items remain the same • EVERYTHING ELSE WILL DOUBLE • Checkout periods in Cardinal are determined by checkout library
CUSTOMER FRIENDLIER RULES • FINE-RELATED BLOCKS: • Accounts won’t be blocked unless they have $20 or more in fines • DVD MAX FINES: • DVD fines will cap at $7 per item
CHECKOUT HISTORY • CUSTOMER CAN OPT-IN THROUGH THEIR ONLINE ACCOUNT • We won’t be able to see their checkout history
NOTIFICATION PREFERENCES • CUSTOMER CAN ADJUST THROUGH THEIR ONLINE ACCOUNT • Text notification for arrived holds is available
NEW MATERIALS • Only available at owning system for first six months • Polk customers will still have priority for Polk items, new or old.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How does the stuff get from library to library? • US POSTAL SERVICE • In-state mail is overnight. • Most libraries mail a 2 -3 times a week.
Will I get my holds faster or slower? • We expect it to take about the same amount of time
Will I still be able to renew/request/etc. online? • YES • The catalog will be using different software, so it will look different. • All the current customer features will be available. Plus more! (adjust your own notifications, for example)
Will Overdrive be affected? • You’ll have to select POLK as the log-in library. • Other than that, things should be unchanged. • No loss of holds, checkouts or anything else.
I’m visiting from elsewhere in NC. Will my card work here? • If you are not sure whether it is a card from a Cardinal library, staff can scan the barcode to see if you find an account. • Or, look at a list of member libraries.
What if I have a Henderson County card, too? • Eventually, you’ll just have one or the other. • We won’t be worried about that for a while though. • If you live in Polk County, you’ll probably want to keep the Polk. That way you won’t have to pay out -of-area charges to Henderson County!
