Carbon coatings for the SPS: 2015 summary P. Costa Pinto, P. Cruikshank, B. Holliger, L. Leggiero, H. Neupert, V. Nistor, M. Taborelli, M. Van Gompel
Achievements during 2015 Coating of 13 m unit (2 MBB length) in one run - with modular hollow cathode (2 m units), designed for «in situ» operation - powered with 2 independent power sources on both ends - SEY on samples along the chamber is 0. 9 (24 h coating) - Proved the principle of coating etching with O 2 plasma with a long anode (not for «in-situ» ) In situ SEY measurement: - SEY in the chamber went from 2. 5 down to 1. 6 after 3 scrubbing runs of 2015 2
Technical issues to be solved: preparation of EYETS MBB - modify the 13 m long cathode to get 2 independent power feeds on one end - test in the lab in real MBB+MBB - build a twin for EYETS QF - Test QF cathode for in situ coating, 2 coaches of 1. 7 m - Buid more units SSS - A large variety of cases: what do we coat? Verify the possibility to do 2 MBB and QF in one pumping run if SSS is removed Optimization of quality assurance: - Endoscopy before/after, test the CERN endoscope and/or improve - Hydrogen issue: RGA and Optical emission spectroscopy during the coating - SEY and XPS on one sample at one end Plasma cleaning: -test new modular anode (manage to confine the plasma) 3
