CAPPS II Defined o o What is CAPPS II? n It is a prescreening system that the Department of Homeland Security hopes to have fully implemented in the near future to check all airline passengers against a database of commercially available information and to then provide the passenger a risk color/status. CAPPS II is not… n a way for the government to data mine information about it’s citizens. n going to prevent people from getting things like car or home loans. n a way for the government to keep track of where and when you travel.

Controversial Issues o o o What information will be obtained? How long will it be stored? What if it is wrong? n o o IF it is, how do I fix it? Can I trust the government with my personal information? What are my basic privacy rights when I fly? How can I be sure that this database will only be used for flying? Will this really be effective?
