Capacity • Capacity is the amount of dry or liquid material that an object can hold. • There are customary and metric units. • In the United States we use customary units. • In other parts of the world people use metric units.
Gallons When we break up a gallon we get four quarts.
Quarts Out of each quart we get two pints.
Pints For each pint we got 2 cups.
Converting • In order to convert customary units you ether multiply or divide. • If you are converting big units to small units you multiply. • If you are converting small to big units you Example: divide. 2 gallons=_____ pints Because we get 4 quarts out of each gallon we multiply 4 by 2. Our answer is 8 pints.
Metric Units • Metric units are on a scale of ten. • Metrics is a unit that is used all over the world. • 1 liter = 1, 000 ml • 1 liter = 1 Dekaliter • 1 liter = 100 decileter This is a liter Mountain Dew.
