CANES Program 101
What is the CANES program? The goal of PBIS is to prevent the development and the intensifying of problem behavior and maximize academic success for all students. CANES is our version of PBIS at Fitzgerald High School that takes the place of the 3 R’s from the Primary, Elementary and Middle School.
How will it affect the school? As a student at Fitzgerald High School, we will act as CANES. Courteous Accountable Noble Engaged Self-Motivated
Courteous polite, respectful, or considerate in manner.
Accountable expected to justify actions or decisions; responsible.
Noble having or showing fine personal qualities or high moral principles and ideals.
Engaged Occupied in learning; present in the moment; on task
Self-Motivated motivated to do or achieve something because of one's own enthusiasm or interest
CANES ARE Classroom Listen to others. Courteous Be on time. Accountable Noble Engaged Self-Motivated Hallway Restroom Use respectful language and behavior. Keep the restroom clean. Computer Labs Use your indoor voice. Wait your turn in line. Use your Get in and Follow time wisely. out in a Instructions timely manner. Respect others. Respect other people’s space. Why should we do it? Research by Rath and Clifton (2004) indicates that individuals who receive regular recognition and praise: Increase their individual productivity. Are more likely to stay with their organization. Receive higher loyalty and satisfaction. Have better safety records.
