Examples of Satire “She is at present a slave in the family of an ancient sovereign named Ragotsky, whom the Grand Turk allows three crowns a day to maintain him in his exile; but the most melancholy circumstance of all is, that she is turned horribly ugly. ”Pg 86 This is satire the fact that after all that she has been through the worst part is that she has become ugly. “Lord bless me, ” said Cacambo, “was not I obliged to give two millions to Seignor Don Fernando d’Ibaraa y Figueora y Mascarenes y Lampourdos y Souza, the Governor of Buenos Ayres, for liberty to take Miss Cunegund away with me? ” Pg 87 This is satirist the length of Spanish names. “Candide bestowed a thousand embraces on the Baron and Pangloss. “And so then, my dear Baron, I did not kill you? and you, my dear Pangloss, are come to life again after your hanging? But how came you slaves on board a Turkish galley? ” Pg 88 This is satire of how many hero seem to return from the dead with ridiculous stories.
More Examples… “I would be glad to know which is worst, to be ravished a hundred times by Negro pirates, to have one buttock cut off, to run the gauntlet among the Bulgarians, to be whipped and hanged at an auto–da–fe, to be dissected, to be chained to an oar in a galley; and, in short, to experience all the miseries through which every one of us hath passed, or to remain here doing nothing? ” Pg 95 This statement is satire on how the boredom that they were experiencing was worse than all the torture that the had gone through before. “There is a concatenation of all events in the best of possible worlds; for, in short, had you not been kicked out of a fine castle for the love of Miss Cunegund; had you not been put into the Inquisition; had you not traveled over America on foot; had you not run the Baron through the body; and had you not lost all your sheep, which you brought from the good country of El Dorado, you would not have been here to eat preserved citrons and pistachio nuts. ” Pg 97 This is satire of theory “No pain, no gain. ” It is saying that all of that pain was necessary to get them where they are.

Original Satire Hello Emily! Today I had ran to the grocery store. I was just about to leave, when I saw your daughter. I was so thrilled to see her, she has gotten so old and has grown to be a beautiful woman. I was walking up to tell her to say hello, when a large Latino man came from the side and started standing by her. I was terrified for her well being, who knew what this man was capable of doing to such a delicate flower, so I stared running towards her. I ran to them as fast as I could, and just as I was going to grab her away HE KISSED HER ON THE CHEECK!! I was so shocked! I thought she was still dating Kevin, your nephew!!! I can not believe that a lady of such high class, be dating outside the family name! My Lord I have never in my life seen something so sickening I didn't know how to handle myself. All these thought going in and out of my head, I fainted with thought of him actually loving her. Once I awoke, it had been hours later. I woke up in an ambulance, and was greeted by your daughter. She seemed worried for me, but I was worried for her! She told me the man she was with saved me from hitting my head on the can food. Knowing this man touched me without my consent filled me with such rage that I began projectile vomiting all over the car. I continued to yell with such rage and being calling her obscene names. She look confused, as if she didn't know what she had done, and began to cry due to the name-calling. Once I began to calm down, I asked her about this boy she was with. Turns out, he is just her new head cook from Spain. The whole thing was a misunderstanding, and I hope we can just put it all behind us. So Emily I am terribly sorry for the fiasco that I have caused, and for the names I called your daughter. Are we still planning to have dinner at your house on Saturday? Best Regards, Nancy
