Canada Joins the War • On September 1 1939 Germany invaded Poland. Britain said

Canada Joins the War • On September 1 1939 Germany invaded Poland. Britain said that if Germany invaded Poland they would defend Poland. So on September 1 1939 Britain declared war on Germany. Canada backed Britain so on September 9 1939 Canada joined World War Two.

Germany Attacks France • In the spring of 1940 Germany attacked France. British and Commonwealth troops were sent to France to protect France. But Germany was to powerful. The allies failed but many were evacuated in Dunkirk, France.

Battle of Britain • After Germanys conquest of France, Germany started bombing Britain. Because of this the RAF sent British and Canadian pilots to intercept the bombers. It was a decisive allied victory and because of it Germany had to resort to bombing in the night. That was a good thing because now the German bombers could not see where they were bombing. But still many people were being killed.

Dieppe Raid • On August 19 6, 000 infantrymen mostly Canadians invaded the German occupied port of Dieppe. They met a big opposition and suffered heavy casualties. The raid failed because of poor intelligence. Almost 60% of the soldiers that made it ashore were either killed, wounded or captured.

In the beginning the British and Commonwealth were beating the Italians but, after that the Germans under command of Erwin Rommel chased the British back across the Egyptian desert. Soon the British changed their commander to Bernard Montgomery and drove Germans out of North Africa.

Juno Beach • On June 6 1944 Canadian soldiers came off of landing platforms on to a beach called Juno Beach was in Normandy, France which was in German occupied France. 350 Canadians died on Juno Beach. Other beaches that were landing were the beaches of Omaha, Utah, Sword and Gold. These landing were a part of the D-Day landing.

Battle of the Bulge • In the winter of 1944 Canadian troops were sent to Holland to liberate it. While they were liberating Holland Germany sent soldiers to counterattack the allies in Holland. But the Canadians resisted them and continued liberating Holland. Because of that Holland sends Canada flowers every year.
