Summarise key points as a mind map, and do Qs. 1, 2, 4.
Tuesday 5 February A balanced diet SLO: Explain what a balanced diet is. • Define balanced diet • Draw a basic food pyramid • Explain why different foods should be eaten in different amounts • Notes on key functions of nutrients: energy, growth and repair, and health balance. • Reading labels – what do they tell you? • Listing types of diets – What is a balanced diet? • Homework: Find and cut out 2 food labels. Compare the energy content and nutrient content of each. Which contains most energy? Which contains a greater range of nutrients?
Thursday 7 February The role of nutrients SLO: Recall why nutrients are needed and good sources for each of them. • Define nutrient • Explain the role of different nutrients in the body • Explain the consequences of too much or too little of specific nutrients • Checking homework • A balanced diet • Draw food pyramid, write diet for the last 3 meals, compare to own diet. • 8 Ab/1 – Keeping it balanced cut and paste activity, using pyramid and other info on p. 10, Exploring Science 8. • What if you stopped eating sugar for a week? • Sugar • Read Focus On: diabetes, p. 13, Exploring Science 8 and complete 8 Ab/3 – Focus on: Diet and diabetes.
