Calorie Calculations This slide show will explain how calorie totals are calculated.
Where does this calorie total come from? That is the question.
It comes from here, here & here! That is the answer.
Calories O Calories are the amount of energy in food. O Energy sources in food come in the form of Fats, Proteins & Carbohydrates.
Total Calories per serving = 90 STEP 1: Find how many grams of total fat per serving. (3 g) STEP 2: Find how many grams of total carbohydrate per serving. (13 g) STEP 3: Find how many grams of protein per serving. (3 g)
STEP 4: Multiply total fat grams by calories per gram. 3 grams X 9 calories/gram = 27 calories from fat STEP 5: Multiply total carbohydrate grams by calories per gram. 13 grams X 4 calories/gram = 52 calories from carbohydrate STEP 6: Multiply protein grams by calories per gram. 3 grams X 4 calories/gram = 12 calories from fat
STEP 7: Add all of the calories from fat, carbohydrate and protein together: 27 calories from fat + 52 calories from carbohydrate + 12 calories from fat = 91 Calories Note: Calories are always rounded on food labels, which is why the label to the right lists 90 calories instead of 91. Also, this is why calories from fat is listed as 30 instead of 27.
