Introduction • CAKE Q 1 is aligned with Maersk Drilling’s new HSSE initiative - the Hand Fingers Injury Prevention program (more detail on the next slide). • As part of this initaitive, some hands-free rules will be introduced. Our Q 1 topic will focus on this. • This presentation is an introduction to get accquainted with the rules. Note that the rules are not implemented yet. Hands and Fingers Injury Prevention Program Maersk Drilling is implementing the “Hands and Fingers Injury Prevention Program” to reduce our most common injury, In first phase we will adopt a strict “Hands Free“ approach to the planning and execution of all operations is planned for roll out in Q 1 2018 HANDS-FREE TOOLS TENDER Running tender to ensure full range of “Hands-Free tools” is available on units for roll out HANDS-FREE RULES & PRINCIPLES Adopting “Hands-free” rules and guidelines to be part of management system adhered to throughout planning and execution of operations. INTRODUCTION VIDEOS COMMUNICATION MATERIAL Offshore portal tile development to serve as primarily communication channel; Print material; Tools catalouge and FAQ. To prepare personnel to the changes; inform on changes and reasoning behind them, 3 videos will be developed featuring MD CEO and COO and real-life TRAINING 5 videos will be developed to reflect 5 rules including 1 -2 practical scenarios per rule in which it is relevant and tools that will be necessary to use.
Hands- Free Rules 04 02 05 03 01 ASSESS ALTERNATIVE HANDLING METHODS HANDS ON HANDLES ONLY NO HANDS ON LOAD Hands and fingers shall not touch any hoisted load. Loads shall be handled by the use of company approved tools, such as tag lines, push pull sticks or other suitable Hands -Free tools. When manually handling equipment, tools or movable structures, always use the designated handle. If handles are not part of the design, handles such as handling straps or strops shall be used HANDS OFF WHEN ENERGY OFF Equipment shall not be energized in any way while hands are engaged. Hands shall not touch an energized load or line un-der tension from any lifting device. Likewise, energy shall not be applied to anything a person is touching, e. g. whilst holding a chisel and using the hand. During the toolbox talk, the crew shall discuss whether the job can be conducted in such a way that the use of hands is eliminated by means of considering alternative handling methods, automation or guards. RIGHT TOOLS FOR THE JOB Each Hands-Free tool is designed to address a specific challenge. Personnel shall always match the tool to the task and only use approved Hands-Free tools. If in doubt which tools to use, personnel shall consult the section leader or section leader delegate.
