The speech Good morning / afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. My name is. . On behalf of the students' committee I welcome you to the GSR Rotterdam. It is a great honour to have you here on this special day - I must apologize for reading out this welcoming speech but you will understand that I am a bit nervous about having to speak English to such highly placed people! It is the first time that our school has taken part in an international exchange programme with so many European countries. We, the students' committee, hope that the programme will lead to new contacts with students in other countries of the European Community. Especially, the idea to stay with families abroad appeals to us, although many of my classmates are also a bit worried about this aspect of the exchange. ''What will I get to eat"? "Will I be allowed to go out? " "What if I cannot understand them. . . ? " Of course, we hope that our teachers will help us with these matters. This week has been organized so that you will get to know our Dutch culture, the Dutch school system and the typically Dutch student. . . The students' committee will participate in the meetings so that our voices may be heard, which is also typically Dutch! Today you will be shown around the school and our principal will host a special dinner for you tonight. Tomorrow the first meeting with the students' committee has been planned - it will start at 2 p. m. and I hope to meet you then. Thank you for listening!
