LVDS cables: labels and bundles o 1888 cables plus 80 spares o o Each needs label at both ends Also organised into 252 bundles o o o Each bundle contains 2 -16 cables Bundles constructed with regular Velcro bindings Turns out this was 2 man-month’s work o Thanks to Vasile (sorry, no picture) Ides of March, MMVII Cabling Status and Plans 6
Some LVDS cable bundles Ides of March, MMVII Cabling Status and Plans 7
LVDS cabling: delays o Serious cabling started in mid-February o o Delays due to crate availability o o o A lot later than we’d hoped Or rather ‘final’ crate And cable support mechanics In fact we still have no ‘final’ processor crates o New mechanics for: o o Power supply CMM RTM All backplanes need to be removed and tested/fixed Decided we needed to push on anyway o o But just install cables, no connection yet Some risk – have to estimate necessary lengths Ides of March, MMVII Cabling Status and Plans 8

LVDS cabling: status o Once started, progress was fast o Two cabling weeks = o o All JEP to A-side cables installed (1/2 JEP) All CP to A-side cables installed (1/2 CP) Except spares Laying requires several ‘hands’ Ides of March, MMVII Cabling Status and Plans 10

Static build-up precautions o Safest scheme: o o Remove modules before cables connection Clean connector with air blower? Ground connector before insertion into backplane Before module insertion, insert dummy grounding module o o At each end: PPM and CPM/JEM Requires: o o o Cable grounding device (4? ) Dummy PPM module Dummy CPM/JEM module Ides of March, MMVII Cabling Status and Plans 15
Remaining ‘Cabling’ Schedule o Cabling weeks required o 2 weeks analogue cabling o o 2 weeks LVDS laying o o o Typical duty-cycle is 2 cabling weeks per 5 weeks Finish in 3 -4 months? ? Next cabling weeks: o o o Ides of March, MMVII Maybe does not require ‘specialists’ Say 5 -7 weeks in all o o Uncertain timescale 2 weeks LVDS connection o o Requires 6 people in bursts of activity 1 week crate CP/JEP crate mechanics o o Only 3 people needed (ie main cabling team) 26 th– 30 th March: Mainly Analogue A-side installation? 16 th-20 th April: Begin LVDS C-side installation After. . . to be determined Cabling Status and Plans 16
Conclusions o Schedule for final cabling becoming clearer o o o But shouldn’t forget, we have other cables o o o e. g. over 300 Glinks to RODs And lots of CP/JEP backplane juggling o o Unless we have more surprises (ie delays) Should be mostly finished by end of June? Will add several days work Progress, as ever, due to dedicated work of Simon, Xen and Alex And many other willing volunteers Ides of March, MMVII Cabling Status and Plans 17
