While some parents are quite happy to let their children play video- or computer games, more and more parents are becoming concerned that they are harmful for children. Personally I believe that computer games can be harmful. Firstly, if a game is violent, the player may start acting in a similar way in real life. Reality and computer world sometimes do mix and this may lead to unpredictable consequences. Secondly, children will not have enough time or interest to do their homework because they spend too much time playing computer games. As a result, their marks at school will get worse. What is more, their eyesight can be harmed by looking at the screen for many hours. Still, some people believe that computer games are a good way of keeping children occupied and a good way for them to release aggressiveness. It is claimed that those who play computer games get into trouble less often because they don’t hang out after school or break the law. However, I don’t agree with this as children can be occupied not only by playing computer games but by watching educational films or reading, for example. As for aggressiveness, it can be released in sports by doing physical exercises rather than by killing monsters in a game. In conclusion, video games have both benefits and drawbacks. As long as parents keep an eye on what games teenagers are playing to make sure these are not aggressive but educational, computer games can be an acceptable pastime.
