BYOT Do’s and Don’ts Students ARE permitted to: • • use laptop computers, tablets, e-readers, phones, and mp 3 audio players. send and receive text messages, access the internet (data plans when using personal technology) , use school appropriate applications/software, work on assignments, use them during the class period if the classroom teacher approves. Students are NOT permitted to: • access the school’s network or wi-fi in the classrooms using their own devices. • use any technology without the classroom teacher’s permission. • wear TWO earbuds/headphones, etc. in the building. • use any software, utilities or other means to access internet sites or content that is blocked by Cabarrus County Schools internet filters. • Hold conversations on their cell phones (if you need to use the phone, go to the office). • Take videos and pictures of other students.
BYOT in Teachers’ Classrooms Teachers are solely in charge of students’ use of technology within their classrooms.
Earbuds and Headphones • Earbuds and Headphones are permissible in ONE ear while in the building. • Why not both ears? • • Safety • Stay in the habit of only wearing ONE earbud. It is important that students hear what’s going on around them, especially if there could be an unsafe situation.

BYOT Expectations • Administration, faculty, and staff may request at any time that students turn off their technology. Failure to follow this direction will result in disciplinary action and possible revocation of BYOT privileges. • Students may NOT attempt to use any software, utilities or other means to access internet sites or content that is blocked by Cabarrus County Schools internet filters.
BYOT Expectations • Privately owned electronic devices are subject to all school rules/policies. It should be noted this includes, but is not limited to all school rules/policies involving bullying/harassment, theft, search & seizure, the issuance of threats, confiscation, profanity, sexual activity, and use of the devices in the commission of crimes and/or violations of school rules and policies.
BYOT Expectations • Neither Cabarrus County Schools nor Cox Mill High School will accept responsibility for any lost or stolen privately-owned electronic device. Responsibility is also disavowed for the repair, and/or troubleshooting of any malfunctioning privately-owned electronic device.
Final BYOT Reminders • • Students must follow the Cabarrus County Schools’ Technology Acceptable Use Policy. You and your parents sign this form at the beginning of each year. Students are expected to follow this policy. Administration, faculty, and staff may request at any time that students turn off their technology.
