ABOUT UVOICE • u. Voice was founded in 2013 as a collaboration between Community Youth Concepts and the Mid Iowa Health Foundation. • In 2018 u. Voice received additional funding from Delta Dental. • Students identify public health issues facing youth in our community and combat those issues through grant making and service learning.
About Mind Matters ● Youth Summit planned in collaboration between u. Voice, Please Pass the Love, and Al Exito: By Youth - For Youth ● 78 students attended the event which consisted of speakers, breakout sessions, and mental health resources for students. ● Some of the topics discussed included: ○ Microaggressions ○ Coping Skills ○ Self Advocacy ○ Helping friends and peers experiencing mental health problems ○ Panel about a cultural approach to mental health.
Mind Matters Impact ● Large group of people coming together to talk about mental health without stigma ● Power of collaboration ● Learning things about each other and about themselves ● Opportunity to uplift youth voice in the community about mental health - students advocate for their own needs and share experiences. ● Adults hear directly from students
