What are the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens? Habit 1: Be Proactive. Take responsibility for your life. Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind. Define your mission and goals in life. Habit 3: Put First Things First. Prioritize, and do the most important things first. Habit 4: Think Win-Win. Have an everyone-can-win attitude. Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood. Listen to people sincerely. Habit 6: Synergize. Work together to achieve more. Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw. Renew yourself regularly.
Habit 1: Be Proactive reactive Listen to your language Victimitius virus Proactive pays proactive
Habit 1 NOTE Reactive Language: “I can’t” – “It can’t be done” Takes power away from you. Those with “victimitus” blame others, whine and complain. We can’t always control what happens to us but we can control how we respond. The brick walls are there to show you how much you want it. Proactive Language: “I will do it – there has to be a way” Proactive pays because…you can bounce back after the bad, think before you act, find ways to make things happen, focus on what you CAN do. View setbacks as opportunities to change and grow.
Habit 2: Begin With the End In Mind Goal setting Personal mission statement Care about the world, life, people, myself Love myself, family, world, knowledge, learning, LIFE Religion Education Succeeding Productive Exercise Caring Truthful Fight for my beliefs, passions, to accomplish do good, be true to myself, against apathy Rock the boat, don’t’ let the boat rock me, be a rock BE REMEMBERED
HABIT 2 NOTE Develop a clear picture of where you want to go and draw a map to get there. Goals should be specific, measurable, attainable. Write down your short and long term goals…a goal not written is only a wish. Write a mission statement…a personal motto/credo that states what your life is about. Provides focus. When you have an end in mind, the goal becomes easier to attain. Ask yourself…Is the life I’m living leading me in the right direction?

Renew and strengthen: Body – good nutrition, exercise and relaxation Heart – positive relations with others Brain – write, speak, create, explore, analyze, imagine, focus “Let no one ever come to you without leaving better and happier” Mother Theresa
All Change Begins With You (From the writings of an Anglican Bishop) When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world; As I grew older and wiser I realized the world would not change. And I decided to shorten my sights somewhat and change only my country. but it too seemed immovable. As I entered my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I sought to change only my family, those closest to me, but alas they would have none of it. An now here I lie on my death bed and realize (perhaps for the first time) that if only I’d changed myself first, then by example I may have influenced my family and with their encouragement and support I may have bettered my country, and who knows I may have changed the world.
What behavior will you change, and what goals will you set, for this course… for this semester… for this year?
