Apply social work ethical principles to guide professional practice.
Social workers have an obligation to conduct themselves ethically and to engage in ethical decision making. Social workers are knowledgeable about the value base of the profession, its ethical standards, and relevant law.
Recognize and manage personal values in a way that allows professional values to guide practice. Example: My professional values are to report to work in a timely manner, attend all meetings as per schedule, and complete prior work to due date.
Make ethical decisions by applying standards of the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics and, as applicable, of the International Federation of Social Workers/ International Association of Schools of Social Work Ethics in Social Work, Statement of Principles. Example: Evaluating situations based on facts and incorporating social work models. Grievances, resident to resident altercations, and interviews with residents.
Tolerate ambiguity in resolving ethical conflicts. Example: Making decisions that are feasible for residents and facility. Like Pre-screening residents for admissions to make sure the resident and facility are a good match.
Apply strategies of ethical reasoning to arrive at principled decisions. Example: Resident to resident altercations. Residents arguing or incompatible in rooms as roommates, we must chose who is right or wrong or who must be moved to solve the problem.
