Fats Kids need fat for brain and nervous system to develop Ø They help growth in the brain, provides the blueprints of cells Sources: Foods like meats nut’s and butter Ø
Protein Ø Aid in the building of antibodies Ø Is in almost every part of our body Ø We need protein for healthy growth Sources: meats, eggs, dairy, seeds, and nuts
Fiber Ø Is very important for our health Ø Flushes out bad fluids Ø Recommended amount per day is 25 to 40 grams Ø 2 types: Water soluble (dissolves in water) Ø Insoluble (does not dissolve) Ø Sources: Dark vegetables, Citrus, whole wheat, and dates
Vitamins One of the most essential nutrients needed Ø Two types: water-soluble vitamins and fatsoluble vitamins Ø Water soluble is taken out of body daily Ø Fat soluble is stored in fat tissues so don’t need it often. Ø Sources: eggs, milk and fruits and Vitamin A, Ø Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin E and Vitamin K
Minerals Ø Are inorganic Ø Need certain amount for body to develop Ø Help growth of bones and teeth Ø. Sources: Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Selenium, Sodium, and Zinc
Water Ø Water is over half our body weight Ø No living thing can survive without water Helps with daily functioning of our body Ø Sources: fruits, vegetables and most liquids Ø
