Henri Cartier- Bresson was born on August 22, 1908. He was the oldest of five children His father was a wealthy textile manufacturer and his mother’s family cotton merchants and landowners in Normandy where he spent part of his childhood. His family lived in a bourgeois neighborhood in Paris, near the Europe Bridge.
He owned a box brownie camera to take holiday snapshots Later experimented with a 3 x 4 view camera, and he also liked to sketch. After studying painting, Henri attended the University of Cambridge from 1928 to 1929. After completing his service in the French Army, he was arrested for hunting without a license. Henri met an American expatriate who pursued officers to release Henri from custody for a few days. They both realized their mutual interest in photography and spent their time taking pictures of Crosby’s home.
He was an early adopter of 35 mm format, and the master of candid photography. He helped develop the “street photography" or "real life reportage" style that has influenced generations of photographers who followed.
Personally I liked Henri’s style of taking pictures. I really like how in his street photography photos they are of everyday life and they look really interesting. I really enjoy his photo Allé de Prado, Marseille took in 1932 because of the trees in the background. I also like to take pictures in this style.
