Our county situated on the bank of the Danube is not only the open eye but also the representation that Romania sends towards the world.

Population, Location and Climate In general, Romania has a temperate… while a considerable influence of the sub-Mediterranean warm and dry climate can be noticed in the southern and western areas of the country.

As a consequence of its Biodiversity geographical location and evolution of the human society in the region, Romania has a unique and high level of biodiversity and intact ecological systems. The vast reed beds of the Danube Delta, the high density of large carnivores and the extensive forests covering the Carpathian Mountains are some of the most significant and best known aspects attesting Romania's biological richness. n

Mehedinti County is an old land The Mehedinti county, an old land bordered by the Danube River, is symbolically a place with all geographic and relief characteristics of Romania. A reason to visit this county is its history and vestiges. Archaeologicaly, the man lived since the palaeolithic (Schela Cladovei). The Romans' arrival in the Balkan Peninsule, their wars with the Dacian Kingdom, the colonization of Dacia and the birth of the Romanian people are proved by important vestiges: the ruines of the Trajan's Bridge, Drobeta Roman camp, or Roman Thermae. In a large archaeologic park which consists also in the ruines of a mediaeval defence works from the XIII-th century and a mediaeval church (the XIV-th century) of the Severin Metropolitan Seat, in Drobeta-Turnu Severin there is the "Portile de Fier" Museum (natural sciences, history, folk art, aquarium and art).
