Does the thickness of a magnet affect its strength?
If I do…I think that the thickness of a magnet affects its strength, because…
3 different types of magnets (1 cm, ½ cm, 2 cm) v 1 stalk of lined paper v refrigerator v pencil/paper v ruler vcalculator v
Independent Variable: The different thickness of the magnets. Controlled Variables: Dependent Variable:
1)Grab your materials (1 cm , 1/2 cm and 2 cm magnets), 1 stalk of lined paper, refrigerator, pa-per and pencil, and finally a ruler. 2)Place the 1 cm magnet on top of the paper on the refrigerator. If it can hold it keep adding more until it can’t hold any more papers. Do the same with the other 2 magnets. 3) Record your results on a paper with a pencil. 4) Add all 3 results from the 3 trails of the 1 cm magnet, divide by three to get the median. Do the same with the other 2 magnets. 5) Make sure you repeat steps 1 -4 2 more times, to get a total of 3 trails.

My hypothesis was correct. My data shows that the thickness of a magnet does affects its strength, because the 1 cm. magnet could hold 16 papers, the 1 ½ cm. magnet could hold 31 papers, and finally the 2 cm. magnet could hold 37 papers. So it means that the thicker the magnet the more strength. What did you learn. . .
This information can be helpful in the real world because if your not sure if the object you want to hang on your refrigerator is way to heavy you know that you need a stronger thicker magnet.
