What is a letter of request Examples: You want to take a tour of Channel 12 Newsroom. You want to go to the Grand Canyon on vacation, but need information. • Explain why you are writing. • Ask any questions you have. • Describe what you would like to receive (and when). • Thank them for their help.
A letter of request has these parts: • • • Heading Inside Address Salutation Body Closing Signature
Heading • Include the sender’s address and date.
Inside address • Include the name and address of the person or company you are writing to. • Place address at the left-hand margin, four to seven spaces below the heading. • If the person has a special title such as Executive Producer, add it after his or her name (use a comma first).
Salutation • The salutation is a greeting, a way of saying hello. • Write it on the second line below the inside address. • Always use a colon at the end of the salutation. • Examples: Dear Mrs. Frisoni: Dear Sir or Madam:
Body • This is the main part of the letter. • Begin this part two lines below the salutation. • Double space between each paragraph. • Do not indent • Keep the information brief and simple. Make it easy to understand.
Closing • Place the closing at the left-hand margin, two spaces below the body. • Use Very truly, Yours truly, or Sincerely for a business letter closing. • Capitalize the first word but not the others. • Always place a comma after the closing.
Signature • End your letter by signing your name beneath the closing. • Skip four lines and type your full name. • Then write your signature (your name in cursive) between the closing and your typed name.
