Assembly Line (B) – Initial Steps • Start by reading Assembly Line (B) in your course pack • Then go to Canvas => Modules => 11 and download Asssembly. B_student. xlsx
Assembly (B) – the Demand Distribution 1 2 Select B 16, then Click this Select, then OK 4 3 Click this then select B 34: C 46 Click this
Be aware, after selecting B 34: C 46, put $ in the reference because you will need to copy this cell and you do not want the reference to change as you copy. (You can put $ by moving cursor on B 34 and C 46 shown in this input cell, then pressing F 4) You should finally see this….
Assembly (B): Formulas to Copy
Assembly (B): After Copying Formulas Use Crystal Ball’s Copy and Paste to copy B 16 to C 16: CW 16

Grid Search Now perform a “coarse” grid search over wide ranges of values for Max and Min. The goal is to determine, to the nearest whole number, the best values for Max and Min. • Base the new Decision Tables on the results of your past Decision Tables • Refine your search (make your search grid ever finer) until you are searching over neighboring whole number values for both Max and Min.
First Decision Table Results Since the smallest average Total 100 Week Cost occurs at Max = 130 and Min = 30, we should center our next search on those values.
Second Decision Table Results The smallest average Total 100 Week Cost still occurs at Max = 130 and Min = 30, so let’s refine our search to Max = 128, 129, . . . , 132 and Min = 28, 29, . . . , 32.
Final Decision Table Results Thus, the average Total 100 Week Cost will be minimized if Max = 130 and Min = 31. Note that this just allows us to take advantage of the quantity discount on each order.
For next class • Homework 2 due on 9/29 by class time • Review Parts I & II on your own before midterm review session
