Résumé des points saillants Grammaire /15 Critique du film Sept vies (version anglaise : Seven Pounds) Le cinéaste Gabriele Muccino, qui a collaboré avec Will Smith sur The Pursuit of Happyness dirige le film Sept Vies comme une sorte de casse-tête. Le film ouvre quand Ben Thomas (Smith) téléphone à 911 de signaler son suicide. Les scènes suivantes nous mènent d’un flashback aux autres : où Ben reçoit une liste mystérieuse de candidats aptes ; où Ben est chef d’une compagnie aéronautique ; où Ben est dans un accident d’auto ; où Ben traque une série de personnes avec des maladies. Qu’est-ce qui se passe ? Est-ce que Ben est un ange ? Un fantôme ? Un extra-terrestre venu à la Terre pardonner nos péchés ? Évidemment il est beaucoup trop gentil pour être un vrai agent de l’organisation IRS. D’une manière altruiste, Ben répare les vies des étrangers tels qu’un homme aveugle (Woody Harrelson) et Emily, une femme dont le cœur est fatigué (Rosario Dawson) – le film semble être une fable paradigmatique de nos jours. Mais, dès le début, il y a quelque chose plus sombre à l ’arrière-plan ; un secret noir attendant à être révélé. Pour souligner le point, Smith plisse les yeux et fait la moue, tout dans un effort de sembler malheureux. L’énigme centrale recule pendant le développement de la chimie entre Smith et Dawson. Une fois la relation maladroite consommée, la fin, avec une tournure complexe, arrive soudainement. La conclusion est plus prosaïque et épouvantable que j’aurais pu croire et même si j’aimerais gâcher la fin, je n’en ferais pas. Comme Hancock, Sept vies est un film trop sentimental, plein de profonds problèmes de structure, de logique et de vitesse. Évidement les producteurs pensaient qu ’une vedette comme Smith porterait le film. Mais, Sept vies est plus pire; un film maussade, moralement corrompu qui mêle la générosité et le chagrin, l’abnégation et l’annihilation de soi. Même s’il est présenté en guise de cadeau euphorisant, il vaut mieux de le laisser emballé.
