Bullying: What IS It? Bul-ly: (verb) Bullying is an Aggressive behavior that is mostly heard of and occurs among school aged children. It’s a repeated behavior that goes on over time between the person that’s bullying and the one that’s being bullied. Bullying comes in three different ways: 1. Verbal bullying: Hurting someone by rude comments, and calling people names. 2. Social bullying: Spreading rumors or embarrassing someone in public. 3. Physical bullying: Hurting someone with physical contact. (hitting, spitting, kicking, etc. ) 4. Cyber bullying: Attacking/harassing someone over the internet.
STATISTICS bullying is getting bigger as we all know it • Suicide is the third leading cause of death among young people, resulting in about 4, 400 deaths per year, according to the CDC. • Over 14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it. • According to studies by Yale University; Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims. • A study in Britain found that at least half of suicides among young people are related to bullying.
BULLYING SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED How to prevent bullying: If situation is happening in person/online Keep a record of who you talk to. Get in touch with the police. Keep username and password a secret. To prevent from happening in the future Help kids understand bullying. Keep the lines of communication open. Encourage kids to do what they love. Model how to treat others with Tell someone right away. kindness and respect.
Anti-Bullying Laws �A number of legislatures have proposed laws requiring schools to have anti-bullying policies and programs. Recently a federal legislator even proposed a national legislation on bullying.
