“Be a Buddy, not a Bully” Objective To understand the importance of treating others with respect.
Bullying • Bullying is unacceptable. • It will not be tolerated. • Standing by and allowing someone else to be bullied is just as harmful. • Part of being a responsible and upstanding citizen is standing up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.
Understand Bullying What is a bully? What is a victim? • A bully harms other people and does not treat them with respect. • They intentionally hurt others by threatening and controlling others repeatedly. • A victim is emotionally or physically harmed by another person. • A victim may feel afraid, uncomfortable, or threatened by another person’s unacceptable behavior.
What is a bystander? • A bystander is a person who is a witness or oversees an event. • You are a bystander if you see and hear the actions of others.
For Your Safety • Teachers and staff will immediately refer to guidance any bullying situation reported by students.
Activity • • Listen to the story. Identify the bully, victim, and bystander in the story. Discuss ways to correct the situation. In reflection booklet list 3 ways that you can stand up against bullying.
