We are very fortunate in the United States because we have a democratic government. This means our government is led by the people. The citizens do not actually rule as individuals, but they vote for people that they want to represent them in the government. As citizens, we get to choose people who we believe have strong characters, similar values, and will lead our country in a positive direction. Unlike the democracy in our country, some countries have a plutocracy. In a plutocracy, rich people are in control of the government. Only the wealthy citizens are allowed to vote and make decisions that affect all of the country’s people. Plutocratic governments are not a fair representation of the people because they only represent people with a lot of money. PART A What does the word, “plutocracy” mean as it us used in the paragraph above? a. ruled by the people b. government where all people can vote c. government ruled by rich or wealthy people d. ruled by Goofy’s friend, Pluto PART B What phrase in the paragraphs above supports your answer to Part A?
