Introduction In our Building Stronger Families Microsoft® Power. Point® presentation, Learning Team D will discuss what characteristics are most important in building a stronger family. We will discuss three activities that families can do in order to build a stronger family. We will describe how society plays a role in improving the strength of the family. We will describe what current societal trends must changed in order to prevent abuse and neglect. Lastly, we will discuss what role Child Protective Services workers play in strengthening the family, and treating and preventing abuse and neglect.
What is a family? “A family is an intimate domestic group made up of people related to one another by bonds of blood, sexual mating or legal ties. It is the smallest and basic social unit, which is also the most important primary group found in any society (Family: Meaning, Characteristics, Function, and Types, n. d. ). ”
What characteristics are most important in building a stronger family? There are six important characteristics that are most important in building a stronger family. Spend time together Effective communication Appreciation Commitment Good coping skills Values and convictions

Societal Trend Change More community programs and available resources Home visit programs for at risk families More emphasis on prevention may be responsible for the reduction in physical and sexual abuse. More programs to help decrease poverty to relieve stress
Societal Trend Change Campaign to educate the general public on abuse Change the type of families targeted for prevention services Increase in economic self-sufficiency of families Families being less isolated and able to access the support they need. Societal level intervention efforts
The Role of Child Protective Services CPS promotes the safety and well-being of children through intervention on reported cases of child abuse and neglect. The goal of CPS , are to keep children in their homes when it is safe, and to provide a safe living environment when it is not("Social Work Degree Services", 2018). CPS workers must provide support to both the child and the family surrounds them. They are required to have backgrounds in counseling and psychology("Social Work Degree Services", 2018).
Treating, and Preventing Child Abuse and Neglect Follow up on any and every suspected case Investigate Develop a plan of action Possible removal of child from danger Family strengthening supports Follow ups on family progress Prevention through education and awareness
Strengthening the Family With Community Resources Group and individual family members Mental health and addiction support services Housing Resources Family Supports Foster Care and Adoption Services Food, Cash, Medical Assistance
